The Issue

Last week The Issue hosted our second Fashion Week. We kicked off the week's festivities with our second annual PlayMarket, an event hosted on Library Mall where we curate a number of student and community owned brands to sell their goods to campus. Thank you to the School of Human Ecology, University of Wisconsin-Madison Design Studies department for sponsoring this event. This year we featured 10 brands, from streetwear apparel to handmade ceramics. We also debuted our own hand-printed Issue tote bags. The event was a huge success, and we look forward to hosting it again in the future!

This weekend members of our team traveled to Ann Arbor for the Michigan Fashion Media Summit. At the event, members had the opportunity to listen to industry professionals such as Jonathan Newhouse, Kristine Westerby and Chris Appleton discuss important topics in fashion and media. Our members built career skills, and networked with representatives from brands including LVMH, Christian Dior Couture, Centric Brands and GUESS?, Inc.. Many also had the chance to meet designer Steve Madden. Congratulations and thank you to the board and steering committee at the University of Michigan who planned the event! We look forward to returning next year.

In my latest article for The Issue I sat down for a conversation with rapper and poet Jason Hill (@barsofsteel). The UW-Madison Department of Communication Arts third-year student and I discuss Black male fragility, creative expression and finding community in foreign environments.
