After hosting four epic, sold-out world premieres along the East Coast and launching a bracket-style competition that includes a public vote and view count, the dust has settled. A champion has emerged. A huge congratulations to Jordan Montgomery and Clayton Mein and North Carolina’s Outer Banks surf community for winning The Inertia‘s Inaugural HOMETOWN HYPE presented by White Claw!
The goal was to celebrate the unique character of America’s Greatest Surf Towns from the perspective of those who know them best: local creatives, surfers, and residents. While that’s a nice North Star, execution is everything. This could have easily taken a left turn. But it didn’t. Every single team and community that participated fully committed.
While we hosted a bracketed contest with a wink and a nod (acknowledging that selecting a winner is a flawed process and each of these communities is different and beautiful in its own right), the short film that Jordan Montgomery and Clay Mein of Abyss Films produced about the Outer Banks is outstanding. Over 100,000 YouTube viewers and the majority of voters agreed. It’s heartfelt, and it’s concerningly relevant.

The spotlight cast on the resilience and camaraderie of each of these local communities is inspiring and more poignant than ever.
A huge, humble thank you to all involved.

Another awesome project complete in collaboration with The Inertia and Travel Baja California Sur. I was asked to film a Short Documentary about a 1600 mile road trip from San Diego all the way down to Scorpion Bay, BCS. It was hands down the coolest experience. I've never done a route all the way to Scorpion Bay so it pushed my boundaries and I was able to explore a new area of Baja! Thanks to all that made this trip possible!
