Trafigura is proud to announce the first pilot of the #MiomboRestorationAlliance this week at #COP29 with the government of Mozambique for a greenfield restoration project aligned with VM0047 ABACUS to produce carbon removals under Article 6. This week in #Baku we presented the first pilot and process in a workshop with the 11 governments in the Miombo - encouraging transparency and alignment across the region as the Alliance scales, with the next three pilots expected to be finalized by the end of the year. How fitting to kick off this partnership at the #FinanceCOP and with the backdrop of successful agreement of #Article6 in the same week. Thanks again to the leadership of Mozambique and the other African nations in Miombo - and to the vital role of The ICCF Group as secretariat and our other NGO partners in supporting this endeavor. This milestone comes less than 8 weeks after launching at NYCW - and we’ve only just begun ! ?????? https://lnkd.in/gYSg5Zne

For the?UN Biodiversity?Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (#KMGBF) to succeed, the?ultimate goal?is to fully – 100 percent – align public and private investments with nature-positive activity. We are currently far from getting there. But change happens step-by-step, and at?#COP16Colombia?in Cali I have been energized by many practical, purposeful discussions about how transforming harmful subsidies can unlock new incentives that benefit #biodiversity.? ? This was the experience in Costa Rica, where so much changed when farmers began being adequately compensated for keeping forests on their land intact. When these?Global Environment Facility-supported Payment for Ecosystem Services were introduced, they changed mindsets and behaviors, resulting in safeguarded key biodiversity corridors and helping to propel reforestation at a national scale.? ? Subsidy reform can seem daunting or even?impossible?but this is an area with tremendous potential. Being specific about identifying more sustainable ways to fish, farm, and produce energy, and repurposing public support toward these nature-positive practices, in partnership with the private sector and multilateral development banks, can lead us somewhere new. Thank you?Max Andonirina Fontaine, Barry Gardiner MP, Astrid Schomaker, A Prasad, Avril Benchimol, Matthew Reddy?for an excellent side event on the power of #KMGBF Target 18, building on our full-day conference held in partnership with Colombia's Ministry of Environment,?UN Biodiversity's Secretariat,?Conservation International, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, The ICCF Group, The Nature Conservancy, The World Bank, World Economic Forum?and moderated by the inimitable GEF STAP Chair?Rosina Bierbaum. #GEFatCOP16Colombia | COP16 Colombia
