This week, faith leaders from across the nation visited Capitol Hill to urge policymakers to sustain America’s leadership in The Global Fund—an investment that saves lives while strengthening U.S. security and prosperity. For more than 20 years, Americans of #faith have championed this mission, recognizing both its moral imperative and?the significant benefits it brings to the United States. Their advocacy builds on a letter led by former United States Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D. (R-TN) and 225 faith leaders—highlighting the importance of U.S. leadership in the fight against #AIDS, #TB and #malaria to faith-based communities across America. ?? Earlier this week, we marked World #TB Day—a moment to recognize the extraordinary progress made in the fight against #tuberculosis, thanks in large part to American leadership through The Global Fund and U.S. bilateral programs. Since 2002, U.S. investments have helped cut TB deaths ?? by more than a third and have supported the scale-up of lifesaving tools and #innovations worldwide. But our work is not yet finished. TB—the world’s deadliest infectious disease—continues to threaten global health #security, including here at home, where we are seeing a rise in cases and drug-resistant strains. ?? The good news is that we have the tools to end TB. With continued American leadership and ??global collaboration, we can bring an end to this devastating epidemic. #WorldTBDay

Sands highlights how with technological advances in diagnosis, prevention and treatment—along with public-private partnerships that are working to increase widespread access to these interventions—it is possible to?#EndTB. Investing in the fight against tuberculosis reinforces global health security. The Global Fund is the largest external source of financing for drug-resistant TB – an ever-growing global threat and a major cause of death from antimicrobial resistance worldwide – in low- and middle-income countries. Failing to invest to end TB means that the world will face an even more dire global health crisis. TB does not respect borders.
