Had a great time speaking at Pocket Gamer Connects San Francisco last week! I joined an insightful panel on Gaming M&A & Financings – Outlook for 2025 & Beyond, alongside industry experts Michael Metzger (Drake Star), Andrew Sheppard (Transcend Fund), Michael M. L. (Com2uS), with Ciaran Hickey (Wiggin LLP) moderating the discussion. We covered everything from early-stage funding and strategic acquisitions to regional capital flows, valuations, and what’s ahead for gaming deal-making in 2025. Loved the energy and the chance to share The Games Fund’s perspective on where the market’s heading. Thanks to the Pocket Gamer Connects team for having me!

GDC is coming to an end. I had a wonderful week. I thank all partners that came over to meet our team and am grateful for all the overwhelmingly positive feedback we have received from very talented gaming industry professionals. After 6 months of work since first funding back in October 2024. Sharing a bit of the massive company progress was really satisfying. All of this is thanks to our first partner The Games Fund who enabled us to kickstart the production of the game. Ilia Eremeev ?? GDC and Maria Kochmola And of course my incredible team, that has been moving mountains for months and consistently pushing the boundaries of what is possible with Unreal Engine 5. It was also a great opportunity to discover the United States. ???? San Francisco is such a beautiful and iconic city, full of ambitious and tech savvy people. Through and through, I had a blast this week. It was a joy to be part of the positive momentum and to help bring a breath of fresh air to the industry. We are just getting started. I will definitely be back. #GDC

Together with Alexey Ilin we already had 6 meetings today, with 3 more ahead, and I’m absolutely loving our Day 1. Hoping the rest of the week keeps the same energy and mood! We can say a lot-both good and not-so-good about GDC, its meeting system, and the (over)priced hotels. But the people who come here during these days make it all worth it. In the end, it’s always about the people. Everywhere. Every time. #people #madeonearthgames #gdc #gdc2025 #game #development

Alright, if you’re heading to Game Developers Conference next week, here’s something to think about. If you’re like me and plan meetings a month or more in advance, you probably didn’t pick exact locations at the time. Makes sense - you just wanted to lock in the meetings. But now, with GDC around the corner, those "TBD" locations can turn into a real headache if you haven't set a certain place now. I just checked my schedule and realized I have seven meetings with no set place. Trying to figure this out on the day is a mess. You think your next meeting is nearby, but nope - you’re running across the GDC area and your apple watch/Garmin will honor you, but..... Even if you planned for an extra time, it’s still a hassle. To make the whole overview of my calendar, I used Google Sheets + Gemini to sort it out. Flow: 1?? Export your calendar into a spreadsheet. 2?? Ask Gemini to organize meetings by date. 3?? Let Gemini format it neatly. 4?? Check which meetings still don’t have a location or ask Gemini to check any other parametr. 5?? Share with teammates so everyone’s on the same page. Do yourself a favor - sort it out now and have a stress-free GDC. Everbright Babka by Made on Earth Games would approve (Just see how she cares about organizing everything). #gdc #gdc2025 #gemini #google #meetings #game #development #everbright

Go Go small teams who dream big!
2024 was an incredible year for The Games Fund! According to annual reports from InvestGame and Drake Star, TGF was named the most active gaming early-stage VC fund of the year and ranked among the top four gaming VC funds across all stages. Not bad for a small team! Especially since we only reported new deals and left out internal rounds. We backed some amazing companies, including Drama Studios, Dark Passenger, Juicy Buttons, ROAR Games, Obelisk Studio, Eschatology Entertainment, Red Rover Interactive, and Playgama. Plus, there are a few new deals and rounds we haven’t announced yet. TGF is a highly specialized fund that focuses on discovering fresh talent, taking shots on unconventional ideas, exploring overlooked markets and jurisdictions and aiming for big rewards when those risks pay off. We’re constantly exploring the market, and often the first to invest in a company, leading the deal at the pre-seed stage. We have great confidence in European talent, especially from Central and Eastern Europe. We are directly investing in countries like Poland, France, Cyprus, and Turkey, while also creating connections with the global industry, from North America to South Korea and China. Our bets are sometimes risky, but that’s how we uncover hidden gems. It’s incredibly rewarding to see our early investments grow, with strong metrics, growing revenue, and talented founders evolving into confident leaders who manage exceptional teams. It’s also exciting to see our portfolio companies impress some of the most successful organizations in the industry, securing major funding rounds and partnerships. The follow-on capital they’ve raised has far exceeded our initial investments, and we’re optimistic about the upcoming releases and announcements. A big thank you to all the companies that chose TGF as their partner and to the investors who joined us on this journey, and to our fantastic team Ilya Karpinskiy, Maria Kochmola, Alena Potorskaya, and Roman Ilyutkin ?? . In 2025, we’re continuing our mission to fund the most innovative gaming founders, whether they’re young or experienced, working on mobile games or PC/console projects, premium or free-to-play. The only requirement? Be amazing, have bold ambitions, and deliver on your vision. GO GO small teams who dream big!

New deal alert: $3m to Dark Passenger for the next-gen Multiplayer Action Game inspired by Feudal Japan. "Although we're best known for AAA, story-driven RPGs, our true passion has always been multiplayer. This obsession started over two decades ago, playing fighting games, LAN parties, and tournaments in Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament. The intense emotions of playing together and against each other forged unforgettable stories. We've always dreamed of creating a multiplayer game that orchestrates those moments. While the multiplayer landscape is more exciting than ever, we still see vast untapped potential. It takes imagination, trust, and vision to fully understand our direction, and these are the qualities we found in The Games Fund. This investment is a game-changer for us—it’s helped expand our team and set the foundations for our project, allowing us to focus on production." - Jakub Ben, Co-founder and CEO of Dark Passenger.
I am happy to announce our newest investment! The Games Fund invests $3m in the Warsaw-based Dark Passenger for the next-gen Multiplayer Action Game inspired by Feudal Japan. The Company was founded by Jakub Ben and Pawe? Kuleta and reunites CD PROJEKT RED veterans, including Marcin Michalski. With their experience on iconic titles like The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, the team aims to create an original IP unlike anything gamers have seen before. The core team blends the art expertise of RealTime Warriors with top talent from acclaimed studios like CDPR, People Can Fly Studio, Reikon Games, Flying Wild Hog, and @Covenant.dev. We continue to invest in the Central and Eastern European gaming industry, and this is our largest initial investment so far! Poland is the major hub in this region and Polish developers are famously strong in PC and console single-player game development. But the Dark Passenger team chose to follow their passion for co-op multiplayer games, a market we strongly believe in. There’s a shortage of games that dare to take risks and deliver bold, unapologetic experiences full of “Hell yeah!” moments - and Dark Passenger is set to deliver exactly that! Please read the articles in comments to learn more about the team and the game. Thank you, Jakub and Pawel, for picking TGF as your partner in this journey! Maria Kochmola, Ilya Karpinskiy, Roman Ilyutkin, Alena Potorskaya, Grigory Bortnik, Marlena Babieno (Blite Fund) PS. Congrats to my little deal guessing contest:?Theodor Diea?(Extraction Shooter, Poland) and?Christopher Anjos????(Survival Crafting, Poland) - this is not 100% accurate, but two closest guesses! Your little prizes are incoming. Thank you Dean Takahashi, Batuhan Avucan and other great people who had to deal with me over weekends and covered this story! ??
