When Devon Mosley joined The Field’s Board of Directors, he saw a unique opportunity to use his skills to help create change in the arts landscape. Right away he was inspired by The Field’s mission to support self-employed artists and ensure they have the resources to thrive. We asked Devon to share a few words on why he gives to The Field.

In 2000, Michaela deepened her commitment by joining our board, advancing The Field’s mission to connect, empower, and elevate artists. She began playing the piano at the age of 4 and performed across the US through her high school and college years, including at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, Carnegie Hall, and the Goethe Institute in New York City. As an organization founded by artists *for* artists, we have a profound appreciation for the Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts's SHIFT Residency. Since its inception in 2010, the SHIFT residency has been providing peer support, mentoring, and studio space for over ninety artists who work in arts organizations in New York (as administrators, educators, accessibility consultants, etc.), to advance the artists’ creative practices in balance with their careers. The SHIFT residency honors these artists’ commitment to the arts community with a supportive and collaborative environment.

We’re proud to contribute to a cleaner, greener, more creative NYC by partnering with Materials for the Arts to support our artists in search of materials for their projects. Last year, MFTA diverted over 1.7 million pounds of materials from landfill to support arts & culture in NYC. One benefit of our fiscal sponsorship program is that all of our fiscally sponsored projects have access to the abundance of resources offered by Materials for the Arts.
