CASE UPDATE: Two traffickers have been arrested! Because of teenage survivor Meaw’s brave testimony despite significant trauma, our investigators were able to pursue her traffickers and help law enforcement bring them into custody — even though one had fled to a remote monastery to hide. This man and woman will not be able to abuse any other teenager the way they harmed Meaw.

Right now, 61% of those being trafficked worldwide are women or girls. At The Exodus Road, we believe that women's voices are essential in our advocacy efforts to lead others trapped in exploitation to freedom. In every sector of this work fighting exploitation, women push us forward and make us better. This International Women's Day, join us in celebrating women and the tremendous power they hold in fighting back against trafficking!

Yesterday, we joined forces with The Lighthouse 1893, Senator Tartaglione,?and other Pennsylvania community leaders to tackle the alarming rise in the digital exploitation of youth in Philadelphia and across the U.S. In a special roundtable conversation facilitated by former DOJ Office for Victims of Crime Director Bill Woolf, participants discussed themes such as national trends in digital exploitation, impact on the Philadelphia area specifically, digital safety challenges, and how to develop strategic solutions. In addition to representatives from The Exodus Road, The Lighthouse, and Senator Tartaglione’s office, attendees included educators, law enforcement, nonprofit leaders, and legislative representatives. "Our kids are growing up in a digital world that presents real dangers, and we can’t afford to look the other way,” said Senator Tartaglione. “The rise in online exploitation is alarming — these aren’t just statistics, they’re our children, and we need to do more to protect them. This roundtable is about bringing together experts and community leaders to find real solutions and ensure our kids are safe online." "The Exodus Road is honored to be a part of this crucial conversation about better protecting kids in the Philadelphia community," says our CEO and Co-founder, Laura Parker. "We have spent nearly 15 years combating the worst-case scenarios that can result from digital exploitation. We are excited by the opportunity for systemic change that this roundtable represents."

Alicia (not her real name) was being forced to serve dozens of customers a day — and she was tired. This young mom in Latin America had two small children. The youngest was just two months old. While Alicia was serving buyers, her children had nowhere to go. The traffickers operating the brothel did not care: they insisted she give customers what they wanted while her little girls lay on the floor in the same room. The Exodus Road could not stand to see a situation like that continue. Our team members in Latin America worked alongside local law enforcement partners to gather information about Alicia’s situation. The Exodus Road’s investigators met Alicia and her two daughters in secret and took them to the nearby police station. As soon as the family was safe, our team arranged accommodations, food, medicine, and other essential care for Alicia and her daughters. We will continue to offer them support as they build a new life. Meanwhile, we are continuing to work with law enforcement in the pursuit of those responsible for the trauma Alicia and her daughters have suffered. Alicia and her precious little girls are receiving care today because of you. Thank you!

We are joining NO MORE?for NO MORE Week 2025, taking a stand against sexual and domestic violence. Globally, sexual/domestic violence impacts 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men. Trafficking is very often perpetrated by romantic partners and can be a form of sexual/domestic violence. Situations of domestic violence are also one of the greatest risk factors for eventual trafficking. We are proud to stand with No More in this week of collective action. We are strongest when we stand in solidarity with each other. Community and collaboration hold the power to making a long-lasting impact. NEWS: The Exodus Road’s Brazil Country Director, Cintia Meirelles, supported the freedom and repatriation of two Brazilian men who were exploited in a human trafficking racket within cyberscamming compounds in Myanmar. Working in collaboration with numerous other nonprofits and anti-trafficking entities, The Exodus Road advocated for diplomatic involvement in securing the freedom and repatriation of the two survivors. Brazilians Luckas Viana dos Santos, 31, and Phelipe de Moura Ferreira, 26, were separately lured to Myanmar in October and November 2024, respectively, with false job promises. The two were trafficked to a compound in a town on the border of Myanmar and Thailand. There, they were held and forced to work in support of a digital scamming operation for three months. Their roles were to gain the trust of unsuspecting victims around the world in an attempt to fool them and extort them for money. Reflecting on the weight of the situation, Meirelles says, “The rescue of the Brazilians in Myanmar was one of the most profound moments of my journey. Seeing Luckas and Phelipe finally free after everything they endured was both an immense relief and a powerful reminder of why this work is so essential. Restoring their freedom was priceless, but witnessing Luckas reunited with his mother, Cleide, and Phelipe embraced by his father, Antonio, and his family was beyond words. Watching these reunions was a moment I will never forget.” Read more about this major case:
