Last week, The Engine's Chief Growth Officer, Benjamin Downing, joined an influential session at #CERAWeek in Houston, embodying our mission to make it easier for #ToughTech to change the world. The session,?How to Activate the Whole Ecosystem of Innovation,?explored the very challenges The Engine tackles daily: bridging the gap between groundbreaking research and real-world impact. Ben, alongside Kevin See from Activate, shared insights on how we convene the ecosystem to support Tough Tech companies in their journey from lab to market. This conversation at one of the world's leading energy conferences reflects our ongoing work at The Engine. Every day, we bring together diverse disciplines to unlock transformative solutions in key areas such as applied AI/ML, climate and carbon capture, energy, food/agriculture, and advanced materials. Proud to see The Engine's mission represented on this global stage, driving the conversations that shape the future of Tough Tech and sustainable innovation. ?? Geothermal has the potential to provide massive amounts of clean energy, with little land use, while leverage pre-existing workforce and infrastructure. Read below to see how The Engine resident Quaise Energy is scaling to unleash the potential of geothermal to help solve climate and secure our energy future. #ToughTech
The word is out: superhot geothermal is the future of energy. The Wall Street Journal and others recently came by to see our millimeter wave drilling system going from lab to field and what lies ahead. Safe to say, it’s going to be quite a year. Soon, we’ll showcase how our millimeter wave system can integrate with any oil and gas rig in the world to unlock superhot #geothermal at scale. We’ll also get more powerful hardware, conduct larger and deeper drilling field trials, while preparing our first geothermal projects. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Read, watch, and listen below for the latest on our progress, plans, and the potential of superhot geothermal. As we continue to support the growth of innovative #ToughTech companies, we're thrilled to welcome Hemai Parthasarathy as our new Executive in Residence at The Engine. Hemai brings a unique blend of experience, having led the Rapid Evaluation team at Google [X], served as Scientific Director at The Thiel Foundation's Breakout Labs, and been a founding partner and CSO of Breakout Ventures. She also held roles as VP of Scientific Communications at Ogilvy, founding editor at PLOS, and North American editor for Nature, and holds a PhD in Brain and Cognitive Sciences from MIT. President and CEO, Emily Knight, highlights Hemai's value: "Hemai has a very unique background that combines supporting early-stage startups on their commercialization journey and evaluating the commercialization pathway for different technologies. She can uniquely help technologists on this journey and support the viability and market development of their technology. Hemai can approach this from multiple angles, as a technologist who has spent years reviewing commercial viability and applications for technology, and from a support role of helping early-stage founders and companies develop." We look forward to the invaluable insights and guidance Hemai will provide to our Tough Tech companies as they work to solve the world's most challenging problems. #ToughTech #Innovation #StartupAccelerator #ExecutiveInResidence
