The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the necessity of integrating human-centered design (HCD) into crisis management. By focusing on the experiences of individuals, organizations can allocate resources more effectively during emergencies. For instance, a state agency improved its online benefit application process by analyzing user behavior, leading to increased successful submissions. Another agency prioritized changes impacting vulnerable groups, ensuring communications were clear and accessible. These examples highlight how HCD facilitates data-driven decision-making, enhances user experiences, and ensures that services are tailored to the actual needs of the public during crises. Embracing HCD principles enables organizations to respond more effectively, fostering trust and resilience within communities. Key Takeaways: - HCD enables data-driven prioritization during emergencies. - User-focused improvements enhance service accessibility and effectiveness. - Clear communication with vulnerable populations is crucial in crisis response. Ransomware gets headlines, but it’s not the only cyber risk facing food companies. New attack methods are emerging: - Data manipulation—Hackers altering expiration dates, ingredient formulations, or safety records - Supply chain disruptions—Cybercriminals rerouting shipments or delaying critical deliveries - Operational sabotage—Targeting automated processing equipment to cause downtime As the industry becomes more digital, these threats become more sophisticated. The challenge is no longer just about preventing attacks—it’s about ensuring business continuity when they happen. Businesses can stay ahead of these threats by: ? Integrating cybersecurity into food safety protocols – Treating cyber risks as part of overall food protection strategies. ? Using blockchain for supply chain traceability – Ensuring data integrity and making it harder for hackers to manipulate records. ? Collaborating with industry peers – Sharing threat intelligence through industry groups to stay informed about emerging risks. Cyber risks are evolving—ransomware is just the beginning. Join us this week to uncover the next wave of cyber threats targeting food production and how to build a security strategy that protects both digital and physical assets.
