  • Responding to terror against our immigrant communities, ableist attacks against disabled federal employees, the dismantling of DEI, and the wholesale onslaught against our trans siblings’ safety and existence brings any kind of ‘winter blues’ we might be feeling to a whole other level. Prioritizing rest, recovery, and even joy in times like these makes sure that we have enough energy to keep fighting. Symptoms of seasonal depression can include (not limited to) feeling sad or hopeless, lacking energy or feeling fatigued or lethargic, loss of interest in things you usually enjoy, having trouble focusing or making decisions, feeling unusually irritable or anxious, and more. If you are experiencing symptoms of seasonal depression, consider some of the suggestions in our newest blog post. It also has a list of resources like crisis phone numbers to call and mental health support services. • Statement on President Trump's Disparaging Comments on Americans with Disabilities By: Dr. Victor Pineda, Executive Director of Center for Independent Living, Inc. President Trump's comments this morning, falsely linking inclusive hiring policies for individuals with disabilities to the tragic accident at Reagan National Airport, are both deeply offensive and profoundly misleading. By suggesting that the inclusion of qualified individuals with disabilities in the federal workforce compromises safety, the president not only perpetuates harmful stereotypes but also undermines decades of progress toward equity and opportunity for people with disabilities. Such rhetoric is not only factually baseless but also dangerous, as it seeks to scapegoat marginalized communities during a time of national tragedy. It is crucial that we collectively and unequivocally denounce these statements while reaffirming the critical value and capabilities that individuals with disabilities bring to every sector, including government service.
