Another edition of #TrustTuesday is here! This week, we feature THE MOTIVATIONAL EDGE INC and their Allapattah Campus. The Motivational Edge is a solution-focused youth development agency that utilizes culturally relevant arts and other platforms to engage, educate, and empower young lives. By providing culturally relevant programming using a trauma-informed approach, The Motivational Edge focuses on?mentoring, job readiness, and life-skills development through the arts, sports, and wellness initiatives?to ensure that every youth is ready to contribute positively to their community. The Motivational Edge's current arts-based youth development space in Allapattah is a vibrant and dynamic hub that plays a crucial role in the lives of hundreds of school-aged kids. This space is a haven for young individuals' creativity, growth, and personal development. By fostering collaborations with various organizations, The Motivational Edge aims to provide a more holistic support system that equips young individuals with the tools and resources they need to overcome challenges and reach their full potential. How can we continue to foster and empower the next generation of environmental leaders? ?? ?? ?? Last month, I had the incredible opportunity to help organize the first ever Environmental Youth Summit hosted by The Children's Trust of Miami-Dade County's Youth Advisory Committee. It was empowering to see such incredible community leaders come together in a determined and selfless way, sharing their insights with over 100 youth leaders across Miami-Dade County. I always emphasize that environmental stewardship and resilience are both intersectional and interdisciplinary. No matter your field of work, you can always find a way to incorporate environmental consciousness. Whether it be environmental law, engineering, science communication, or community outreach and mobilization, everyone can use their skill sets, personal interests, and voice to enact reformative and positive change for the sake of society and our environmental future. Hosted at Florida International University - College of Engineering & Computing campus, students toured and learned more about Florida International University's "forward-thinking and innovative" work through their Wall of Wind research and solar panel facilities. Students also had the chance to interact with community leaders through a wide range of panel topic sessions. We had numerous submissions of students submitting their one-of-a-kind work for an environmental film festival competition, which was a huge success! There is power in fostering community, and seeing the students' excitement and perseverance towards a climate-resilient future, was such an unforgettable experience. This summit was a true testament to the power of the youth voice. I am so grateful for the opportunity to have helped support organizing this inaugural summit. “Young people, when they understand the problems, are empowered to take action. October is #NationalBookMonth, and in celebration of the rich diversity of #HispanicHeritageMonth, I’m sharing this moving story I worked on earlier this year with former WLRN Public Media education reporter Kate Payne highlighting the member expansion of The Children's Trust of Miami-Dade County Book Club. Now, even more parents can sign up to receive free books delivered right to their doorstep for children ages birth to five. This is an incredible program for parents to engage intentionally with their little ones.
