Today, we gatherd at the Massachusetts State House for the 23rd Annual Massachusetts Commemorative Ceremonies, honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and celebrating the enduring strength of the families affected. Teresa Mathai, who connected with The Children’s Room after her husband Joseph’s death on 9/11, shared a powerful story of how community organizations across Massachusetts united to provide the support and care families in grief so deeply needed. Her words, alongside those of Deborah Rivlin, TCR’s former Director of Education and Training, Gov. Maura Healey, and others who shared, reflected this year’s theme, “Our Community of Care.” Together, they remind us that in times of grief, it’s the compassion and support of others that help light the way forward. #NeverForget #RememberTheSky

The Children's Room creates safe, supportive communities so that no child, teen, or family grieves alone.
关于我们
The Children’s Room is the leading independent, non-profit organization in Massachusetts dedicated to creating safe, supportive communities so that no child, teen, or family has to grieve alone. Our services include: GRIEF SUPPORT SERVICES – Peer support groups (free of charge): Families come together bi-weekly for peer support groups at our Arlington center. Children and teens meet with others their age who have also lost a parent or sibling, and their parents or caregivers meet at the same time in adult support groups. TCR also offers peer support groups in area schools and community organizations (including Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston), enabling us to reach children who would not otherwise be able to access grief support services. Parenting While Grieving series (free of charge): This eight-week interactive series is offered to bereaved parents/caregivers twice a year. Participants explore the impact of loss on children, their developmental reactions to the grief process, and strategies for dealing with parenting challenges while grieving. Monthly Family Night (free of charge): Our monthly arts-based family nights allow grieving families to come together for creative, family-centered activities and connect with other families in the community. Adult consultations: Professional staff is available to meet with parents and other supporting adults to discuss a family’s unique needs during the grieving process or in the case of a life-limiting illness. EDUCATION & OUTREACH SERVICES – We provide educational workshops, training, and consultations about grief and loss to teachers, counselors, and others working with children, teens, young adults, and families. INFORMATION & REFERRALS – TCR provides information and referrals to families and professionals looking for additional grief-related services in their area.

? Thank you, Jesse Piltch-Loeb, and everyone who joined us for last night's moving book reading event! ?? Jesse's book, "What's Going on with Papa Bear?" deeply reflects on the personal journeys we take through grief. It delves into the painful reality of watching a loved one decline and the mix of emotions that follow. This heartfelt story demonstrates how we can process grief, adapt to change, and find strength in those around us. We’re grateful for the support and the meaningful conversations that took place last night. ????

Our Associate Program Director for Family and Expressive Arts, Laurie Moskowitz-Corrois, led an inspiring session on how thoughtful space planning can promote sensitivity, self-reflection, and understanding. ???
