Here are 6 tips to help you make better decisions in your life and business. This is not an exhaustive list, but just a few that have helped me greatly. 1. Do not rush into a decision. ? A wise proverb reminds us: “The shrewd one ponders each step.” (Proverbs 14:15) ?If you rush into a decision, you may overlook important information. Take time to consider your options carefully. 2. Do not make decisions based solely on your emotions or feelings. ? A wise saying warns us that we cannot always trust our hearts (Jeremiah 17:9). ?For example, we may not make good decisions when angry, depressed, discouraged, impatient, or overly tired. 3. Pray for Wisdom. ? Seeking wisdom is always beneficial. It's often said that a caring mentor wants to help their mentees avoid unnecessary problems. ?True wisdom and discernment come from thoughtful guidance and sound advice. Many find such wisdom in prayer and seeking spiritual guidance. 4. Do research. ? To make good decisions, you need reliable information. An old proverb says, “a wise person listens and takes in more instruction.” (Proverbs 1:5) ? Make sure you get your information or advice from those who have your best interest at heart and are not financially motivated. ? Even in business, we have to make sure to see all the angles. Include those who have been in your shoes or are trustworthy mentors. 5. Weigh all the factors. ? Honestly, consider the possible consequences of your decision. For instance, how might your decision affect you, your family, or others? Reflecting on such questions can help you make a wise decision. ? Additionally, think about the long-term impact. Simon Sinek called the business an “Infinite Game,” where the focus is on sustainable and enduring success rather than short-term wins. This perspective encourages making decisions that benefit not just the present but also the future. 6. Make a decision. ? Sometimes, we hesitate to decide because we feel uncertain. However, if we remain indecisive, we might miss an opportunity or end up in an undesirable situation. ? In other words, indecision can be as unwise as making a poor decision. As an old saying goes: “If you wait for perfect conditions, you will never get anything done.” - Enjoy this? ? Repost it to your network and follow me, Jonathan E. Rivera, for more. Here are my best actionable takeaways from the Harvard Business Review article "4 Ways to Improve Your Strategic Thinking Skills". 1?? Ask Strategic Questions ?? Purpose: Develop your ability to identify opportunities and threats. ?? Action: Regularly question the current state of your business, such as, "How can we enter a new market?" or "What are our long-term growth opportunities?" 2?? Observe and Reflect ?? Purpose: Ground your strategies in reality and facts. ?? Action: Take time to analyze market trends, business performance, and internal processes. Reflect on why certain changes happen and what they imply for your strategy. 3?? Speak Strategically ?? Purpose: Communicate your ideas effectively and persuasively. ?? Action: Structure your communication logically, prioritize key points, and challenge the status quo. This helps ensure that your strategic contributions are clear and impactful. 4?? Make Time for Strategic Thinking ?? Purpose: Ensure you have the mental space to develop and refine strategic ideas. ?? Action: Block out regular time in your schedule for strategic thinking and embrace healthy conflict to test and improve your strategies. By integrating these practices into your routine, you can enhance your strategic thinking skills and make more informed and wiser decisions that drive long-term success for your business. - Enjoy this? ?
