“Trading down in the beauty industry is becoming increasingly common, driven by consumers prioritizing financial caution and seeking lower-cost alternatives due to economic pressures like inflation and other economic fears,” Anna Keller, senior global beauty analyst at Mintel market research company, told Glossy. “As a result, many consumers are switching to cheaper brands and retailers.” According to data from Mintel market research, 74% of makeup users believe that products from affordable brands work just as well as those from premium brands. What’s more, around a third of U.S. consumers are looking to spend less on beauty and personal care items, with lower-income households being the most active in making adjustments to save money, Keller told Glossy. Sustainability, impact, and ingredient essence are key in consumer products, emphasizing purpose alongside ethical packaging and brand stories. ??
