Exhibition Preview Barbara Madsen - Unseen: Assembly Required The Blanc Gallery: 15 E 40th Street, New York, NY 10016 The Blanc Gallery announces Unseen: Assembly Required, on view April 1, 2025 – May 1st, 2025. Barbara Madsen’s new work in sculptures and painting create a brawl between 2-d and 3-d representation, bringing to life characters in a romper room, swaddled in a campy riot of color while eschewing the rectangular picture plane. Moving parts: antennae, ears, sonic rays, flippers, animating the senses and juxtaposing black silhouette shapes serve as absurd Rorschach tests. Madsen’s cast of characters are blithely campy, sinister and nostalgic alluding to a world off-kilter. The work tosses artistic styles: abstract expressionism, photorealism, color field, minimalism neo-pop and cartoons into a boxing ring to duke it out flouting the stodgy notion of paintings typically sitting dormant on walls to be admired and venerated. Simultaneously the painted wooden sculptures provoke the function of art, incorporating utilitarian elements like cupholders, shelves for objects, wheels, embedded glass eyes, whistles, mushroom clouds and black holes. The exhibition’s pursuit is to regain beauty, rather than abandon it, through the celebration of inferno red, alien green, perfect sky blue, blazing bonfire orange, extreme yellow, just a fairytale purple, blackout black, chocolate therapy brown, and sleeping beauty pink. Humor and toys transcend class, race, and gender luring the viewer in. Madsen’s art confronts the complex, physical and psychological value of unseen labor, simultaneously playing tribute to the beautiful underbelly, out-of-sight labor that upholds society. The interior chambers of the sculptures/paintings are intricately designed to be beautiful and lavishly painted. Curated objects are placed inside the sculptures and are having their own private conversations hidden from the outside. The contents are sealed up never to be opened: Jack-in-the-Box, buried treasure or the Trojan toast?

Exhibition On View Duration: December 10th-13th Opening reception: 5-8pm, December 10th Location: 15 E 40th Street, 12F, New York, NY 10016 Mirror balls reflect outwards from the center, capturing and returning light in fractals. Each tiny piece of mirrored glass, fixed in place, spins to create a dazzling blur of nacreous light. This exhibition explores how repetition, sequence, and light shape both inner and outer landscapes. Featuring 21 artists from the undergraduate and graduate programs of Pratt Institute, Making a Mirror Ball brings together painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking and moving images. The works investigate themes of self-discovery, authority, and iconography through distinct mediums, creating a vibrant interplay of light and motion. Highlights include a kinetic sculpture by Harry Ray Gordon, swaying shadows from Daniel Bottcher's illuminated puppet show, and Valentina Asenov's oil-painted lightbox animations, all staged to immerse visitors in a dynamic, operatic gallery setting. Curated by students under the guidance of Professor Andrew Woolbright, this exhibition serves as the culmination of their curatorial studies.

Exhibition on view - The Method Men Gallery hours: 11AM-5PM, Wed - Sat Duration: 11/15 - 12/13, 2024 Location: theBLANC, Ground Floor 15 E 40th St, New York, NY 10016 TheBLANC is proud to present The Method Men, an exhibition featuring recent works by Thomas Levy, Elliot Purse, and Zhang Kaitong, curated by Leo Yuan. The exhibition asks the question of whether an artist's creative process can help resolve larger issues in one's personal life. The three artists share a similar approach to painting that is grounded not in spontaneous bursts of expression but a rigorous, meticulous devotion to craft. Their technical ability affords them the freedom to start from a more honest place and to develop their respective styles organically. The belief is that the discipline of painting-of solving the canvas's demands—is as much a path to self-knowledge as it is to artistic accomplishment. Exhibition on view Exhibition dates: 10/16- 10/26, 2024 Venue: #theBLANC 15E 40th Street, 11th floor, NY 10016. Through varied media, the eleven artists in the 'Bridging Divides' exhibition bring intentionality and bravery to their work in order to highlight dualities and foster reconciliation. In their work, these artists communicate subject matter through both internal and external manifestations that range from private topics, such as exploring competing states of mind and emotions, to universals, such as the contemporary challenge of traversing tensions between one's cultural origins and current lived experiences. Heart-wrenching beauty, realism, and vivid color seductively span the interplay between art and concept and bely the tension of complicated subject matter ranging from healing anxiety to gender politics. These topics are expressed in overt, transparent styles, and also through symbolic and artistic means including gesture, brushstroke, and mark-making. "We live in a world that can feel increasingly divided and yet making and experiencing art can bridge differences, heal rifts, and expose truths" #seemegallery #newyorkgallery #exhibition #artspace

Exhibition Preview - The Still Flow On View: 8/24/2024-9/14/2024 Opening Reception: 8/24/2024 3PM Location: 15 E 40th Street location (2nd Floor) theBlanc is pleased to present The Still Flow, a solo exhibition by artist Xuemeng Li with curation by Tingzhi Zhang. Offering a unique and intellectually stimulating perspective on time, spirituality, and Eastern philosophical ideals, The Still Flow showcases captivating greyscale images that explore forms and methods of picture-making. ? Li’s images of trees, mountains, water, and waves draw inspiration from traditional Chinese landscape paintings. Water is a recurring motif, and the pictures of a quiet ocean, swimming tide, and still pools guide viewers into a meditative, quiescent state. Each photograph suggests stillness and motion, inviting viewers to delve into the relationship between stagnation and movement in visually suspended spaces. In Mountain and River (2022), contrasting gradients of black and white represent the intrinsic flux and balance between gesture and rest, yin and yang, and “xu and shi” (emptiness and substance). The mountain and the river appear to bleed into one another while simultaneously appearing frozen– creating a quiet, suspended feeling in the photo’s pictorial space. Withered Tree II (2022) depicts an image of a severed tree trunk with roots curling outwards over the banks of an anonymous body of water. The disparity between the unmoving water and the decaying tree questions the temporal constraints of a human life span and how the relative briefness of human life affects our perception of eternal motion. Li’s works offer a glimpse into a world at the edges of human understanding, where external and internal worlds flow, converge, and stand still all at once. ? Li’s photographic world is best experienced through a meditative process of observation and contemplation. We invite you to join us in this transformative journey on August 24th to celebrate the opening of The Still Flow at our 15 E 40th Street location (2nd Floor). The exhibition is open between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. and will remain on view until September 14th. #Exhibition #NYCEvent #Art #Artspace #Gallery #SoloExhibition

Exhibition Review- How Are You Doing? Thank you to everyone who joined us of ”How Are You Doing?“ at #theBLANC 11? It was truly a pleasure to foster artistic dialogues around themes of memory, liminality, and identity shifting that each of the artists represent. Your presence made it truly special.
