During Black History Month and every month, BIIC and our partner organizations celebrate Black leaders and their lasting impact. We asked employees from our partner organizations, "Which Black leader, either from history or today, inspires you the most, and why?" Dimitrius King, of The Hartford said, "Reginald F. Lewis, the first Black man to build a billion-dollar company, is my most inspiring Black leader. He inspires me because of his bold vision, determination, and commitment to breaking barriers for Black leaders. His ability to see potential where others saw limits and his courage to seize opportunities, remind me of the importance of thinking big and taking calculated risks. Beyond his business success, I admire his dedication to empowering others, giving back to the community, and creating a lasting legacy. His philosophy of taking ownership, fostering development at all levels, and striving to be excellent resonates deeply with my own values. Lewis’s life is a testament to the power of vision, tenacity, and belief in oneself – a reminder that we can all achieve extraordinary things."
