?? A CALL TO ACTION Join Theatre Washington's staff, Board of Directors, and #dctheatre leadership in urging CulturalDC to commit to selling the SOURCE Theatre to an organization that will maintain it as a theatre and operate on a sales timeline that allows for that. If the public sale continues, it’s likely to be sold to a developer by the end of 2024, and we will lose one of the last viable black boxes for itinerant theatre companies in the DC area. Constellation Theatre Company, which has operated in residence at the SOURCE for 18 years, has made a fair market offer, based on due diligence research, to purchase the building. We mourn the loss of Esther Coopersmith and honor her enduring legacy as an icon in this city and champion of diplomacy through the arts. She served her country as former United States Representative to the United Nations and goodwill ambassador to UNESCO, and she was a consummate host, regularly welcoming people into her home to share time together. We were truly honored to be hosted by her and her family last week to celebrate the upcoming 40th Helen Hayes Awards. We will never forget her kindness and we will carry her spirit with us to the Awards in May. We send our love to her family, friends, and community of admirers.
