I’m making a concerted effort to visit more of our customers this year. Witnessing the incredible work that the PCPs on our platform do has always been the best part of my job. In addition to being inspiring, these visits are also the best way to learn how we can improve at Thea Health. For my first visit of the year, I had the pleasure of stopping by Big Trees MD in Arnold, CA to see longtime Thea customer, Maryal Concepcion, MD FAAFP. In addition to running her DPC practice, Maryal somehow finds time to be a leading policy advocate for DPC, host the My DPC Story podcast, and be a co-founder of The DPC Directory. Maryal gave me a tour of their impressive new practice space and filled me in on the latest trends in DPC. I left with pages of notes about the unique challenges and rewards of practicing medicine in a rural setting, where the nearest specialist can be hours away. Learning how Maryal and her husband deliver care that in an urban setting would involve about ten offices and at least one public health department underscored just how much an innovative PCP can do for their community.
