A new ProPublica analysis found a 50% increase in sepsis cases and a rise in maternal deaths after Texas’ 6-week abortion ban went into effect. Preventive healthcare is under attack. The Supreme Court is hearing Braidwood v Kennedy, a case that could strip no-cost coverage for life-saving services like PrEP and cancer screenings. The Afiya Center, alongside other Black-led organizations, has filed an amicus brief urging the Court to protect access to care—especially for Black women, LGBTQ+ people, and Southern communities, who bear the brunt of health inequities.
