We’re back, continuing to support the fight for workers' rights, and corporate accountability. Here’s a quick wrap up of some of our team’s work from last week: The LA fires highlight a deep injustice: formerly incarcerated firefighters, who risked their lives battling wildfires for pennies, are barred from using that same experience for a stable career post-release. They deserve pardons. It’s time UC put Californians first. The time is now for these crises to be addressed, and we are not about to surrender.” https://lnkd.in/g72sgNn7 In Concord, the City Council is considering rolling back tenant protections that took nearly a decade of organizing to win. "Last year, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong?posted an video?from the Rogers Center in Toronto, showing the East Bay-raised rock star spray painting over the stadium’s Oakland A’s logo with an Oakland Ballers logo. The video, in a way, foreshadowed this week’s news." KQED: https://lnkd.in/gcyQ3FTG

Ahead of the Oscars, we supported the Rachel Antell, Stephanie Jenkins, and Jennifer Petrucelli of the Archival Producers Alliance with this Los Angeles Times opinion piece laying out?what could happen when we can no longer trust real images and how they reflect reality: "When we can no longer accurately witness the highs and lows of what came before, the future we share may turn out to be little more than a haphazard remix, too." https://lnkd.in/djTZU5Ua

We are doing something quite different in California. Do you find it controversial? Some do. But hear us out: We know many boys and men need help to stop relying on ideas of dominance - such as violence, control, and coercion - to assert their masculinity. Prisons and the criminal justice system have proven to be largely ineffective in reducing violence against women. Even still, there’s almost nowhere to turn to for help if you are looking to change your ways, and have a safe relationship. People need options. That’s the Alliance for Boys and Men of Color is bringing the CALL FOR CHANGE Helpline to California. It’s a radical, transformative justice option that’s in high demand. Over the past week, we’ve had two stories published about the helpline’s expansion to California. #HealingTogether https://lnkd.in/ghTfknNf https://lnkd.in/gK77_x5B Gustavo López Jordan Thierry Eric Morrison-Smith

Gustavo Lopez is the research director for Alliance for Boys and Men of Color: “?We need to address the violence by working with men, engaging men as leaders in ending domestic violence.” They wanted to find a solution that didn’t rely on shaming people or entering them into the legal system. “And instead move towards healing options.” https://lnkd.in/ddb4ui5n
