Advancing organizational culture as a key to healthy societies | Award Winning Culture Leader | Published DEIB & Wellbeing Author and Researcher | NYU Professor | Scaling innovation and sustaining social impact

In the world of education funding, there’s a persistent gap between intent and implementation - one that often leaves school staff overburdened, under-supported, and expected to make magic happen with limited resources. The reality is that well-intentioned grant funding can fall short when it isn’t designed around the people responsible for executing it. Our latest brief, Rethinking Educational Funding: Centering School Staff in a Trauma-Sensitive Grant Model, challenges the traditional top-down approach to grantmaking and calls for a shift toward human-centered, ethical funding models that work with school staff, not against them. Because at its core, ethical funding is about more than money - it’s about access, agency, and the long-term sustainability of change. If we want to see real progress in education (and across the public and social impact sectors), we must first ensure that funding structures reflect the realities of those on the ground. While this brief is written with the education sector in mind, these principles apply broadly - to nonprofits and public sector programs where funding is meant to drive meaningful change. The question remains: Are our public and private funding models truly supporting the people responsible for impact? Download the brief here: https://lnkd.in/gMnStSS2 Developed in partnership with Shelly Auld, RHNC, Akeish Forsythe, M.Ed through The Work Well Studio.

  • Last week, our Founder Mykella Auld- M.Ed, PgC-PA had the privilege of talking with Chris Conner on Life Science Marketing Radio. They explored how the true scope of culture goes so far beyond employee engagement or retention - it’s about shaping the world we live in. At The Work Well Studio, we’ve seen how organizations that prioritize internal well-being, shared leadership, and innovation create environments where both employees and communities thrive. In this conversation Mykella and Chris explore critical aspects of our mission to help organizations see culture as a strategic asset—a mechanism that not only supports employees and organizational impact but also shape the societal landscape in meaningful ways. Storytelling For Life Science | Your Deepest Insights Are Your Best Branding

Corporate culture has been on my mind a lot lately. One doesn't need to look far to see how important it is for organizational success. Then I met Mykella Auld- M.Ed, PgC-PA. And she takes thinking about it to a whole new level. Her thesis, which drives her mission, is that workplace cultures spill over into the community, for better or worse. Often organizations that are trying to do good things for the community struggle to deliver a positive environment internally. On this episode of Life Science Marketing Radio, we talked about why culture is a strategic asset and how to plan for and execute it. Spoiler alert: this is not the job for HR. Kella brings a new level of understanding to the connection between workplace and societal structures. This conversation should prompt some thinking about what it means when influential business leaders take on a larger role in government and our communities. Listen to the full episode here and definitely give Mykella a follow here on LI. https://lnkd.in/eYjqezNG _____________________________________________ ?? Hi, I’m Chris ??? A colleague once told me, “I stay quiet in meetings because I’ve seen others like me get shut down.” That simple sentence reveals so much. For this person it was not about their lack of ideas, skill, or initiative - so what causes this silence? ? This is not an isolated story. In far too many organizations that I have worked with, employees report that they hold back, not because they have nothing to say, but because they don’t feel psychologically safe to say it. It seems to me that this is often a result of a series of small but powerful interactions. We share an idea and get cut off or dismissed. We raise a concern and are labeled “difficult”, “negative”, or “not a team player.” Others watch this unfold and decide it’s safer to say nothing at all. This points to this being a culture issue - practices, norms, and values that contribute to people not feeling safe to contribute. Over time, trust erodes, and the workplace becomes a place where silence replaces connection. The good news is that psychological safety can be cultivated. The reality is, when people don’t have to second-guess whether their ideas are welcome, they step forward. They contribute. They innovate. Psychological safety is the foundation for creativity, trust, and engagement. Teams that feel safe don’t just perform better; they build workplaces where everyone feels a sense of belonging. I had the privilege to speak with the California Department of Technology yesterday on how to take a strategic approach to fostering psychologically safe work cultures. Thank you to Megan Shearer and Chaeny Emanavin for the invitation to join this valuable conversation with the team.

  • We had a wonderful time this week, working and learning along side a national community of folks working to advance the well-being of our youth! Akeish Forsythe, M.Ed, Odyssey Alliance, Annie E. Casey Foundation

As the volume of youth well-being data grows, the need for timely and reliable updates becomes crucial. The conversation around using data to advance communal impact and well-being continues to grow. With that growth there is a need to shift from thinking about data work as simply a process and platform issue, but also an ethical, equitable, and engagement priority. The success of any system depends on the people involved. If we want change to stick, it has to be co-created with trust, well-being, and transparency at the center. Akeish Forsythe, M.Ed and I had the pleasure of attending, presenting, and providing coaching at the National Kids Count Data Conference at the Annie E. Casey Foundation in beautiful Baltimore. Partnering with Akeish's Odyssey Alliance allows us to bring data and culture work together to design strategic plans and priorities with government agencies, communities, non-profits, and social impact organizations to advance communal well-being. And as we, here, know, The Work Well Studio believes, and furthers the data informed conversation, around the fact that the organizational culture ripples far beyond the 9-5. It directly impacts the norms, values, and behaviors of the world our youth grow up in. We had fun this week, working and learning along side a national community of folks working to advance the well-being of our youth! Big thank you to Allegra Damari for the time, care, and thought-partnership.

"Culture is what makes or breaks the success of a company. Culture makes or breaks retention, innovation, satisfaction, and productivity. Workplace culture is not a new concept, but it has been gaining attention over the last few years. As culture is taking up more space in conversations around work the idea of culture strategy has also grown in awareness and popularity. Culture strategy is arguably the most important area of focus for the future of work. As a result the role of culture strategist is going to become more common."
