Good to connect with folks and harvest state-specific take-aways at the NC Chamber Economic Forecast Forum this week. Long story short? No slowdown in sight. The Chamber's 2025 agenda focuses on workforce & education, infrastructure, and a strategic plan for agriculture. Wooten has a long-standing relationship with First Citizens Bank, which handles our corporate accounts and was founded in Smithfield in 1898. As the calendar turned to the new year, the NC State Engineering Foundation was informed that Wooten would be contributing to support three specific enhancement funds: the NC State Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) fund, the NC State Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering fund, and the NC State Electrical & Computer Engineering fund. On behalf of the board, President Gary Hartong, PE, FACEC and Director of Marketing & Business Development Charles Davis hand-delivered a check to Fitts-Woolard Hall that is now home to many NC State College of Engineering programs. The donation supports continued outreach, education, and development of top-notch engineers and scientists to support our state's growing economy and beyond. Wooten is fortunate to have talented employees in many fields with diverse educational backgrounds. Among those, the firm has enduring ties to NC State, tracing back to our founder, L.E. Wooten Sr., who graduated from what was then called State College. Also a former associate professor, Mr. Wooten was a 2023 inductee into the CCEE Hall of Fame.

As we anticipate continuing our traditional Holiday Party tomorrow, can we take a moment to brag on how our Amazing Admin duo of Janet Casteen and Jen Acevedo transformed our lobby so that our teams and guests walk through our front door into a Winter Wootenland? They make sure we get everything done every day – and make special occasions more special, too.

Today, the Town of Princeville took a major step towards the creation of a new crown jewel for the historic community. The 53-acre site will include residential and commercial development as well as community facilities and outdoor amenities. With additional funding now in place, the site is ready for initial build-out including utilities, roadways, storm drainage, and sidewalks. For more than five years, Wooten has been involved in the project. This includes scoping, development, fund procurement, surveying, master planning, technical design, permitting, and bidding. The project was made possible thanks to federal funding from FEMA and HUD as well as state support from a direct appropriation and the NC Department of Commerce. Princeville distinguishes itself as the first town in the United States founded by free Black Americans. Dating back to its establishment in 1885, it has contended for more than a century with severe and sometimes catastrophic flooding which has become more frequent and extreme since the turn of the century. The 53-acre site, situated at higher elevation near Highway 64, marks an opportunity for the town to expand and welcome past, current, and future residents as well as new investment in the community.

On Veterans' Day, as we recognize those who served our country, wanted to share that this year Wooten supported The Asheboro/Randolph Chamber's Field of Honor by dedicating a flag in thanks to all veterans. On a beautiful first of November Friday morning with our architectural partners at Clark Nexsen to cut the ribbon at Wake County Public School System’s newest facility: Fuquay-Varina Middle School. Our Building Systems Division, led by Scott Ennis, provided design of the school’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
