  • #WineCoImports Azienda Agricola Accornero The Family Winegrowers for five generations, the Accornero family continue with the same passion and commitment that inspired their great-grandfather Bartolomeo to produce high quality wines from Il Monferrato Casalese. WINEMAKERS SINCE 1897 The fifth generation of Accorneros carry on the family tradition of grape growing with the same passion of their founder: Bartolomeo, born in the first half of the 1800s. In the 1950s, the resourceful and entrepreneurial Giulio Accornero, began vinifying his own grapes commercially hinting at the true potential of the Vignale Monferrato area. Learning the land of Il Monferrato Casalese - an area extending all the way to north-east Piedmont with its hills ending in the Po river where light-colored calcareous marls, predominate - particularly suited to viticulture yielding full-bodied wines, rich in color, and with great aging potential. THE WINES OF ACCORNERO Bricco del Bosco Grignolino Monferrato Casalese shows fruity notes of brambly fruit and undergrowth with characteristic hints of white pepper. Planted in the early 1980s, the fruit is harvested by hand, follows traditional vinification with routine remontage, spontaneous malolactic fermentation, and aged in stainless steel to preserve the primary charms of the Grignolino grape variety. Giulin Barbera del Monferrato Superiore was planted in the early 1990s and has everything one wants from their Barbera; a harmonious, fruity nose, good structure, and appetizing both savory and fresh. Greater depth, texture, and fragrance comes from a submerged-cap vinification with scheduled pumping over which gives way to spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Brigantino Malvasia di Casorzo was first made in 1982 to serve fresh with fruit tarts, krumiri, typical wheat flour biscuits from the area. At 5% abv with a wild strawberry expression on the nose and palate, the gently creamy effervescence of this rosé could match up with most deserts in general or else accompany fresh fruit, or go its own way as a light, fresh aperitif.   • Far North releases BØDALEN BONDED 5-YEAR-OLD BOURBON Story: Bødalen \BO-dah-lynn\ is a single estate, open pollinated, high rye bourbon whiskey born of grain grown and harvested by head distiller Michael Swanson. Bottled in bond occupies a rarefied place in the whiskey world. 100 proof. At least 4 years old. Distilled and aged on site under the supervision of a single distiller, in a single season. Base Ingredients: 60% Minnesota 13 heirloom corn, 30% AC Hazlet Rye, 10% Malted Barley (by Vertical Malt in Crookston MN). Planted and harvested on the Swanson Family Farm. Processing: Milled and mashed on-site. Fermentation: Open top fermented with house selected yeast for 4-5 days. Still: Fritz; 500G Hybrid Pot Still by Vendome Copperworks. Distillation: Double distilled to 150 proof. Maturation: Aged for 5 years in new 53G oak barrels from Black Swan Cooperage in Park Rapids, MN. Filtration: Lightly filtered to remove barrel sediment. Non-chillfiltered.   • RÈMOLE Rèmole represents the approachable, convivial side of Tuscany with its easy-drinking wines. The custodian of 700 years of Frescobaldi history. Rèmole took the name of this historic house, located at Sieci, east of Florence, where family memories intersect with great historical events. Rèmole 2023 is intense, fruity and smooth - a wine with immediate appeal particularly suited to tasty first courses, cold cuts and red meats. Rèmole Rosso has a purplish-red color. On the nose it is fruity with hints of small red and black fruits. This is followed by spicy and balsamic sensations. On the palate it is extremely pleasant with a fine taste-olfactory response. Solid and very smooth tannic texture. A very eclectic wine for pairing, remarkably pleasant, perfect with not overly spicy cold meats and tasty first courses, and can be enjoyed with a wide variety of dishes and in summertime served slightly chilled.   • Introducing BORDIGA GENEPY, ‘Mountaineering Liqueur’, made with the 1888 recipe The Bordiga Genepy, along with the vermouths, was one of the first recipes developed by Pietro in 1888. At that time wild genepy grew abundantly in the Alps and all small communities foraged and made their own, including small distilleries like Bordiga. Now it is a protected plant due to over-harvesting and climate change, so by law must be cultivated. They source many of the botanicals by hand, grown in rocky, infertile soils, so cultivation is a labor of love. It takes two years to mature and then produces flowers for three harvests before it is no longer viable. At that point it is ripped out and the ground must remain fallow for three years before replanting is possible. Genepy is a cultural treasure and Bordiga is the only distillery sourcing all of their plants from estate-owned and farmed fields. It is a true farm to bottle liqueur of traceable origin - a terroir driven spirit that also encapsulates local history and pride. Known as ‘Mountaineering Liquor’ Genepy is consumed as an expression of conviviality when meeting up with friends, an aperitivo or digestivo, and from a flask when hiking in the snow. Tasted by itself we get white flowers, chamomile, and candied lemon peel, finishing with a note of sweet mint. Here in the United States it has also made inroads into cocktail culture as an ingredient in classic drinks as well as more inventive recipes. We happen to think it shines in a Last Word, highball, martini, and even a white negroni variation. Rested 10 days, clarified naturally with cold temperature, paper filtered, then bottled. In the tradition of the Bordeaux cellar masters, the master winemaker marked some of the barrels in chalk with the letters XR as a consequence of having found special characteristics which were not present in others. This XR was never marketed as such but was always a reference point for the master winemaker. This custom lasted almost a century, between the harvests of 1869 and 1964. Marqués de Riscal Gran Reserva is a timeless wine which represents almost two centuries of the winemaker’s skill. It has the traditional style of the Rioja Alavesa, recalling the aspirations of the founders of the bodega back in the 19th century.
