This is the 'small but mighty' team who gave us our legs. Please help us thank them! At this juncture, we especially want to acknowledge the leadership of Kyle Pickett*, Cofounder and VP; Steven Guttmann*, President; Avery Kintner, Treasurer; Candice Kollar, LEED AP*, Secretary; and Heidi Lubin, all of whom have recently completed their term as Board Directors, Executive team members and Workgroup leaders. Let's show them some love with a Repost, Comment or Like! Fueled by their shared commitment to our mission, they powered on through extraordinary times to, as Cofounder Billy Worthen would say, 'get shit done!' Each, in their own way, has made a significant contribution to our organization. Without staff to support them, and standing on what came before, they worked collaboratively and gave tirelessly to advance The William J. Worthen Foundation to the next level. Highlights of their shared accomplishments include: ~ Conventing a small army of volunteer content experts, publishing and distributing the 285-page Building Decarbonization Practice Guide, "the go-to resource for building professionals working on sustainability in 2024" https://lnkd.in/g_PFXB96 ~ Producing educational events including the Water Reuse Summit, multiple AIASF Fresh Brew talks with SMEs, AIA National and other industry conference presentations ~ Rewriting of bylaws, creating Conflict of Interest Policy ~ Establishing operational procedures ~ Sourcing and engaging professional services including bookkeeping, accurate financial reporting and pro bono counsel ~ Establishing our brand; defining brand values and communication strategy ~ Significant growth of our targeted virtual audience and community *Though officially termed off, these Directors continue to be actively involved with ongoing foundation business **Thank you, former Board Director, eden brukman, for your words that helped us articulate our shared vision and mission Jeffrey Till AIA LEED AP, Paul Adamson FAIA, Alice Sung, AIA, LEED AP, BD C, SEA, Jennifer Asselstine, AIA, NOMA, Hafsa Burt AIA, LEED Fellow, NCARB, ENV SP, Indu Chakravarthy, Yash Chitale, Roshini R. Through the joy of collaboration, the William J. Worthen Foundation gathers, educates and inspires practicable action for resilient communities. As a 501(c)3 California Public Benefit Corporation, the Foundation is building on Bill Worthen’s legacy of collaborative leadership in the areas of sustainability and advancing a climate positive future. Billy Worthen was a nationally recognized sustainability and collaborative design leader. Over his twenty-year career, Bill balanced policy development with professional and public advocacy, practice experience, industry research and peer-to-peer education. Bill served as the sustainability consultant for many high-visibility projects exploring the practical application of cutting-edge sustainability strategies, energy performance and high-level LEED certifications for clients including the San Francisco International Airport, Gensler, Perkins+Will, Tishman Speyer, and the cities of San Francisco and Palo Alto. In addition to his role as Co-founder and CEO of Urban Fabrick, Bill was a leading advocate for green building and sustainability policy. He served as a member of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom’s Green Building Task Force, resulting in the city’s pioneering Green Building Ordinance which won the first World Green Building Council Government Leadership Award in 2011. He was a member of the San Francisco Eco-District Formation Task Force, and the U. S. Green Building Counsel’s LEED Implementation Committee, working on new innovations in green building certifications. Bill also represented his profession as the AIA National Director and Resource Architect for Sustainability from 2010 to 2012, spearheading several cross-industry collaborative sustainability initiatives – most notably overseeing the development of the AIA Energy Modeling Practice Guide.

California's Climate Resilient Future Depends on Architects – An overview of the regulatory environment by Panama Bartholomy, as featured in the latest issue of the journal of AIA California ArcCA Digest, focused on #Decarbonization. I'm not an architect, but much of my professional career has revolved around buildings. For over two decades, I've helped drive development of sustainable, climate-friendly buildings for the future, allowing me to recognize just how important the built environment is in supporting our health, our climate, and the quality of life in communities ... Continue reading ArcDigest here: https://lnkd.in/g8sy2SxM Also featured this issue is our own Building Decarbonization Practice Guide: A Zero Carbon Future for the Built Environment, an expert-created free compendium of practical, case study-based guidance—an up-to-date reference tool that design professionals, a.k.a. architects, engineers, contractors, and others, as well as developers, funders, and policymakers can apply now. The goal of the guide is to enable teams to create a zero carbon future for the built environment through the application of advanced carbon reduction and resilience strategies. "Designers have a responsibility to make smart design decisions to minimize their buildings' GHG emissions especially as the urgency to address climate change continues to grow. This two part course hosted by PG&E will look at the holistic carbon profile of the built environment and the cutting edge tools, processes, and case studies that design teams can use to design carbon out of their projects. Instructor Bios: David Heinzerling, PE is a Principal at Taylor Engineering in Alameda, CA with experience in a wide range of HVAC design project types, including office buildings, laboratories, high-rise residential, commercial kitchens, and cultural buildings. With a background in building science, he also has expertise in many areas of HVAC research and analysis, including indoor environmental quality monitoring, chiller plant optimization, waterside and airside economizer analysis, and life-cycle cost equipment selection. Isabelle Hens Isabelle Hens is a senior environmental designer at Atelier Ten in San Francisco. She focuses on embodied carbon and daylight and leads the envelopes working group. Isabelle has published two peer-reviewed journal articles on mass timber, presented her work on facade embodied carbon at four conferences, guest lectured on sustainability at several top California universities, and taught the first course on the embodied carbon of buildings offered at UC Berkeley. Isabelle is a member of the Embodied Carbon Group within the AIA California Climate Action Committee and a group leader within the CircuClarity industry initiative around glass circularity. Have some #fun! Celebrate Trellis Coworking & Events and support a #worthycause. #LEED, Kyle Pickett
San Francisco Colleagues! I'll be back next week on September 12th and 13th to co-emcee a special event at my old office space! This space is also where The William J. Worthen Foundation was formed and where we hosted a number of professional education and holiday events. Our good friend Rebecca Brian Pan from Trellis Coworking & Events is throwing a fundraiser Gala on Sept 12th. We want to get Trellis LEED certified. This is a big deal because, as a home base for climate resilience, they need to show the world that they walk the talk of sustainability. A chance to dress up and rub shoulders with founders, investors, climate innovators, and entrepreneurs. All tickets are 100% tax deductible. Join us! ?

Building Decarbonization Coalition and The William J. Worthen Foundation acclaimed #Decabonization Practice Guide expert contributor, Chef Rachelle Boucher, on the move! #switchison #decarbonization
Did you know that the City of Seattle is offering rebates of up to $8000 to make the switch to electric? ?? Many thanks to El Centro de la Raza, the Building Decarbonization Coalition, and Seattle's Office of Sustainability and Environment for this opportunity to showcase the power of induction cooking. Not only is cooking on induction healthier for our lungs - it is fun, fast, and precise. As our homes, offices, and restaurants become increasingly powered by renewable energy we must consider food and cooking as essential pieces of this transformation. At Archipelago SPC we are always interested in pushing the envelope on food and cooking, both in the kitchen and how we approach systems change. As we continue to explore how cultural techniques meet new technology, I'm so excited to continue to share. Many thanks to Chefs Rachelle Boucher, Jose Garzon, and Marvin Rosete, MPA, Ed.D. for such a successful event. Many thanks as well to Jenae Elliott for coordinating. Excited to keep building here in Washington! Read more here ~ https://lnkd.in/gv75Vhz5 #chefluencer #theswitchison
