Happy Constitution Day! It was on this day 237 years ago - September 17, 1787 - that the delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the original document in Philadelphia. Rhode Island was just one of 13 original states that did not send a signatory to the Convention though, so noone from R.I. signed it that day. We were the last state to ratify the document - almost 3 years later on May 29 1790. Our elected officials sure are making up for lost time though - THANK YOU to Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Senator Jack Reed,and Congressman Gabe Amo incredible support of our production and getting us the hundreds of U.S. pocket Constitutions we'll need to hand out to our audiences when we open next week! About the playwright Heidi Schreck: Heidi Schreck is a playwright, screenwriter and performer living in Brooklyn. Her play What the Constitution Means to Me was named a Pulitzer Prize finalist and won the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best American Play. Schreck also received two Tony Award nominations for What the Constitution Means to Me for Best Play and Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play, the 2019 Smithsonian Magazine American Ingenuity Award, the Horton Foote Playwriting Award, the Hull-Warriner Award, and an OBIE. Heidi’s other plays include Grand Concourse, Creature, Mr. Universe, and There Are No More Big Secrets. Her screenwriting credits include I Love Dick, Billions, and Nurse Jackie.
