Congratulations, Amanda Hughey! Please join us in congratulating Amanda Hughey on her promotion of Director of Training! Amanda graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Hospitality Management in 2009. She began her career with Marriott shortly after graduation as an F&B server attendant at The Ritz-Carlton Resorts of Naples in Naples, Florida. Since then, Amanda has held various positions in operations, consistently serving as the department trainer in each role. This made her most recent position as HR Training Manager a natural fit. Ove the past two years, Amanda has made a tremendous impact on the HR department. She has demonstrated a passion for developing others, becoming a trainer, coach, and mentor to associates and leaders of Westin Kierland. Amanda has brought joy to the resort by celebrating associates throughout the year while ensuring compliance and helping us achieve our goals. Amanda’s “Go. Be. Happy.” involves spending time with her rescue pups, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen and working towards her annual book reading challenge. Join us in celebrating the promotion of Matt Haines to Food & Beverage Operations Manager at The Westin Kierland! After earning his Business Degree from Arizona State University, Matt honed his skills at Civana Carefree Wellness Resort and the Fox Concept Restaurant, Culinary Dropout, where he played a pivotal role in opening a new location and training new staff. His journey led him to the Fairmont Princess as their Pool Complex Supervisor in May 2021, and in February 2022, he joined The Westin Kierland as an Assistant F&B Manager, quickly becoming an integral part of the Pool Leadership Team. In his new role, Matt will continue to oversee Pool Operations, including our recently transformed cabana experience. His dedication and leadership have been invaluable to our team. When Matt’s not elevating our guest experiences, you can find him embodying our “Go. Be. Happy.” mantra through a myriad of activities. He stays active with workouts, hiking, and playing basketball, golf, softball, snowboarding, volleyball and pickleball. It was a pleasure welcoming David Marriott and Carla Murray during their recent visit to Scottsdale!
During my recent trip to Scottsdale, Arizona, I had the pleasure of touring several hotels around the city with Carla Murray, President, U.S. Western Region, Full Service MxM Marriott International hotels. ? ? I met associates and members of the executive committee from W Scottsdale, which is under the leadership of Todd Iacono. The hotel, which is undergoing renovations, has added a new collection of high-end suites and a WET deck bar featuring Arizona’s only chilled pool — yes, it gets that hot.? ? We also got a glimpse of The Ritz-Carlton Paradise Valley, The Palmeraie, a dual-branded hotel that also offers whole ownership, luxury residences. Although the hotel is still under construction, it has started to open its one-of-a-kind villas to residential owners — marking an important milestone for Ritz-Carlton Residences. General Manager Steven Szenasi is part of a terrific team of leaders helping to bring this luxury property to life and I’m looking forward to joining them again when the hotel portion of the property officially debuts.? ? Carla and I wrapped up our tour by visiting The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, which recently opened a new restaurant called Faro & Brag. The restaurant is named after a pair of card games that predated poker, serving up modern dishes inspired by the spirit of the Wild West. To my surprise, the kitchen staff went off-menu to create a mini version of their specialty, The Brag Burger, along with a root beer float. It was as delicious as it looks!? ? While I’ve been to Scottsdale many times over the years, it continues to evolve and grow.?I’m grateful for the fantastic hospitality from each of the GMs and hotel teams along the way. ? #MarriottInternational #Scottsdale #Arizona #Hospitality??
