关于我们
The Walking Classroom is a national award-winning education program that provides students and teachers with an innovative way to get exercise without sacrificing instructional time. Now a program of Alliance for a Healthier Generation, The Walking Classroom's “Walk, Listen, and Learn” methodology capitalizes on the favorable link between exercise and cognitive function. The program is simple: Students take brisk 20-minute walks, as a class, while listening to the same custom-written, kid-friendly podcast that comes pre-loaded on their "WalkKit" audio device. Each podcast begins with a brief health literacy message, and the lesson plans in the Teacher’s Guide help educators effectively discuss and review the podcast material. Awards: 2015: Winner: William J. Bennington Healthy Community Institute, BlueCross BlueShield Foundation of North Carolina (Nonprofit Excellence Award) 2015: Finalist: Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards (Nonprofit of the Year) 2014: National Finalist: Kate B Reynolds Charitable Trust (Innovations in Rural Health) 2013-14: Winner: eSchool News Readers' Choice Awards (Impactful Educational Tool) 2013: Winner: BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina (Health Innovation Challenge) 2012: National Grand Prize Winner: Active Schools Acceleration Project (Educational Technology Innovation)

Members of The Walking Classroom team recently traveled to Utah to present at Utah Afterschool Network's annual Jump Start conference! Together with #Afterschool leaders, we explored creative ways to engage students in movement and learning during out-of-school time hours, including ways The Walking Classroom can support afterschool programming. If your afterschool or out-of-school time program is interested in The Walking Classroom, we encourage you to watch our recent webinar, "Using The Walking Classroom in Afterschool," to learn more! Chief Science Officer at the Alliance for a Healthier Generation | Public Health Physician | Volunteer Leader | Public Speaker
??When there’s a lot on my mind, I really find it helpful to get outside for a walk. ??And as someone who works remotely for an organization that promotes health and wellness, I try to literally “walk the talk” and incorporate movement into my day. That’s why, at Alliance for a Healthier Generation, I try to host my weekly Office Hours as a walking call! ??Just like we encourage movement in schools through The Walking Classroom, I encourage you to get outside for a walk today and consider if you can incorporate walking and the great outdoors into just one meeting every week. #hgatwork #nature #wellness

Vice President, Business Development at Alliance for a Healthier Generation | Equipping K12 leaders with innovative solutions to improve whole child health
What a phenomenal few days in #LittleRock celebrating America’s Healthiest Schools at Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s Leaders Summit. These 879 schools are implementing best practices to support the health of staff, students, and families. For me, the absolute best is celebrating alongside an amazing team who show up every day with passion, empathy, grace, and thankfully, humor! Major kudos to Mary Elizabeth Sullivan for outstanding leadership. Special thanks to Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield for sponsoring our morning walk with The Walking Classroom! As a central Arkansas resident, this was the perfect way to highlight an innovative learning resource improving student health, while also showing off our beautiful capital city. #ahsleaderssummit #healthiestschools #walklistenlearn
