Today we’re excited to feature our client, Kalgain! Despite being hard of hearing, Kalgain never allowed it to become an obstacle. With help from his amazing job coach Wendy, Kalgain had not only gotten an interview with Burlington, he had exceeded expectations during the interview process being very well spoken with an amazing resume, which included operating equipment; highly impressing the hiring manager Elbon and the store manager, who knew ASL as well; unbeknownst to Kalgain and Wendy! Starting September 5th, Kalgain will be the newest addition to the Burlington team, huge congrats to Kalgain!!

Recently, we attended the Tampa Veterans Chamber and had the opportunity to learn about Riverside Recovery through a recent event. Riverside Recovery is a substance abuse center that offers a full continuum of care for men and women who suffer from addiction and mental health disorders. We also had the opportunity to hear from Col. DJ Reyes about the Veterans Treatment Court and how we can connect and discuss how we can help each other. Col. Reyes also mentioned the successful collaboration between Veterans Treatment Court and RIverside Recovery regarding their assistance of veterans going through VTC and praised Hope Florida for what they have to offer our communities. Introducing Jackson! We’re thrilled to share that he is currently undertaking a Work-Based Learning Experience as a food service worker at Mease Nursing Home in Dunedin. Jackson was connected with us through the Pinellas County Vocational Rehabilitation office and teamed up with our Employment Specialist, Tia Murphy. Together, they found this opportunity for Jackson to develop new skills and boost his future career prospects. Way to go Jackson! ??

Meet Jaxon! Jaxon is majoring in marine biology at Eastern Florida State College. She is completing a training program at Hubbs SeaWorld Research Institute in Melbourne Beach which is enabling her to gain experience in her field while she studies. The Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute (HSWRI) is a non-profit scientific research organization committed to conserving and renewing marine life to ensure a healthier planet. Jaxon’s work experience includes classification of dolphin fins, database management, and even necropsies. She is excited to be able to help the staff of Hubbs catch up with a backlog of dolphin photos, which will in turn help with the tracking and rescuing of the animals. Her service dog, Pint, is at Jaxon’s side as she works at the Institute. Jaxon plans to stay in Florida after graduation and embark on a career in marine biology as a research technician. She recommends that if members of the public find a stranded dolphin, they should not approach it or push it into the water but instead call 619-226-3870 to report the animal. Hubbs SeaWorld partners with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, so contacting them in the event of a stranding is also recommended. How about a Feature for Friday!? This is Janet! Janet’s a client of our ES, Rachel. She’s been working in an assisted living facility for almost a year now. Janet actually applied on her own for the position, and Rachel has helped provide employment support and create introductions at the community job fair they attended. Janet said that while she was nervous at first, she’s much more comfortable now and has even become inspired to learn more about memory-related diseases to better understand the people she works with. Great job to both Janet and Rachel!
