On Saturday, we honored 17-year-old Elias Mervin ?? During a visit to Children's Mercy Kansas City for a hamstring injury, doctors discovered Elias had a large mass growing near the top of his heart. He received a dual diagnosis: acute lymphoblastic leukemia & tumor lysis syndrome. Despite the challenges, Elias has faced the battle with courage and positivity! He has responded well to treatment and is excited to graduate high school and continue playing soccer. Our hearts are full after spending the weekend with Levi Akridge & his family ?? In March 2022, during a family trip, Levi's parents noticed his breathing would stop while he slept. An emergency doctor's visit and several tests revealed Levi had a 5.5" mass compressing his airway. Time stood still when Levi's family found out that the mass was cancerous & Levi also had multiple clusters of cancerous tissue in his abdomen. For 2.5 years, Levi bravely fought through treatment. And on July 4, 2024, he rang the bell after his final chemo session! Now, he's back to being a 12-year-old kid, living life to the fullest! We know Levi won't forget this weekend, and neither will we ?? #SportingKC #KansasCity #ChildhoodCancer #CancerSurvivor #community

Meet our incredible new friend, Jack Punswick! ?? Last September, Jack visited the pediatrician for lumps in his neck. A trip to Children's Mercy Kansas City confirmed his diagnosis: Stage II Hodgkin Lymphoma. Suddenly in the midst of college visits & applications, he began eight rounds of chemotherapy. Despite it all, Jack keeps excelling! He placed second in the 100-yard Breaststroke at the 2025 Kansas State Swim Meet & earned the KSHAA 2024 Spirit of Sport Award for his resilience. We loved celebrating him as our Victory Kid at Sporting Kansas City's Home Opener—let’s keep cheering for Jack & his family!

Sporting Kansas City is back for the 2025 season, and so are our Victory Kids ???? During Wednesday's game, we honored 10-year-old Eva Garrett! In April of 2023, Eva was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and needed a bone marrow transplant. Thankfully, one of her sisters was a perfect match! Eva received her transplant on July 5, 2023, and spent 55 days at Children's Mercy Kansas City. Though the experience was difficult for her and her family, Eva is doing great and is back at school with all of her friends again! ???? We're so glad we got to meet and honor Eva this past week!
