The Unity Council is a non-profit Social Equity Development Corporation with a 50-year history in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland. Our mission is to promote social equity and improve quality of life by building vibrant communities where everyone can work, learn, and thrive. Our programs aim to provide the community with the tools, knowledge, and resources to transform their lives and ultimately achieve their long-term educational, career, and financial goals. These holistic programs and services reach more than 8,000 individuals and families annually in five languages. Programs include: early childhood education, youth mentorship and leadership development, employment services, career readiness training, housing and financial stability, senior citizen services, affordable housing and neighborhood development, and arts and cultural events. Our work expands beyond the Fruitvale district and now reaches across Oakland and into Concord. The Unity Council employs a diverse workforce of more than 250 people who reflect the linguistic, cultural, and ethnic identity of the communities we serve.

The Oakland Ballers have teamed up with The Unity Council, to make history with the team’s first annual Latine heritage game on Saturday, August 17th. ??????? Día de los Ballers is a tribute to the leaders, artists, organizers, and everyday people that came before and built Oakland’s vibrant Latine community, and a celebration of those who continue to sustain and advance our community’s future. Everywhere we go, the neighborhood comes with us. So, we’re bringing the East to the West for a festive day of Oakland baseball at Raimondi Park, featuring our music, our food, and our people. ????? For 29 years, the annual Oakland Día de los Muertos Festival has welcomed tens of thousands of visitors to the vibrant, culturally-rich Fruitvale neighborhood for a free, outdoor, family-friendly event taking place to commemorate the Mexican traditions around the Día de los Muertos. Festival attendees enjoy world-class live music, family-friendly games, rides and activities, traditional Latin American artisans, and the stunning altares created by community members paying homage to los Muertos. ??? The 2024 Oakland Dia de los Muertos will take place on Sunday, November 3rd from 10 am to 5 pm on International Blvd between Fruitvale Avenue and 42nd Avenue.
