关于我们
The United States Navy Memorial, located on America’s main street at 701 Pennsylvania Ave, NW, between the White House and the Capitol Building, is quickly becoming one of Washington’s premier destination locations with more than 110,000 visitors each year. It boasts a 230-person state-of-the-art theater frequently booked for Hollywood movie screenings and a 3,500 square-foot interactive exhibit space that immerses visitors in the rich heritage and culture of the Sea Services, making it a first-class venue for Navy ceremonies and private events. Outside the Visitors Center is a large plaza with a granite map of the world that serves as the stage for wreath laying ceremonies, Navy Band concerts, and outdoor film festivals, all featuring an unparalleled backdrop of the National Archives. Overlooking Memorial plaza is the original Lone Sailor statue, which has become an iconic, nationally renowned representation of American sailors, surrounded by fountains with water from the seven seas. The Navy Memorial’s mission is to Honor, Recognize and Celebrate the men and women of the Sea Services, past, present and future; and to inform the public about their service.

Last week we welcomed Navy leaders, awardees, friends, family, and the Naval Academy Baseball team for the 12th Annual Bob Feller Act of Valor Award Ceremony! This event works to bridge two proud American traditions: baseball and military service. Bob Feller, a Hall of Fame pitcher and decorated World War II veteran, exemplified the commitment to serve, both on the field and in the military. This ceremony celebrated his legacy by highlighting individuals from MLB and the Navy who continue to embody these values. Thank you to the Act of Valor Award team for ensuring that future generations understand the importance of leadership and the 4 pillars of service, sacrifice, citizenship, and legacy. It is always such a pleasure to host this event, and we could not be prouder of this year’s recipients!

It was such a pleasure to host a ceremony and reception appointing Dan D'Aniello as an honorary Chief Petty Officer this week! Mr. D'Aniello served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Supply Corps during the Vietnam War from 1968-1971 on board USS Wasp (CVS-18) and has been a longtime friend to the Memorial. In 2016, we recognized his long standing and continued support of the Sea Services with our Lone Sailor Award. This made it all the more special to recognize Mr. D'Aniello as an Honorary Chief Petty Officer. This accolade recognizes sustained contributions to the Navy, its sailors and their families by an individual who personifies the leadership characteristics expected of a Chief Petty Officer. Congratulations Chief and welcome to the Mess. Institute for Veterans and Military Families - IVMF

Last night we Honored, Recognized, and Celebrated the 2023-2024 Delbert D. Black Leadership Award recipient, Master Chief Duane O. Jerry of #NMCB133! Established in 2013 by the Navy's Command Senior Enlisted Leader Community, this prestigious award is presented annually to one exceptional Command Master Chief, Command Senior Chief, or Chief of the Boat across the entire Navy. Named after the Navy’s first Master Chief Petty Officer, Delbert D. Black, it is a privilege to host this event every year in the Chief’s Mess that proudly bears his name. A huge thank you to our event sponsors: USAA , #Herdt Consulting, Blue Cross and Blue Shield Federal Employee Program and Pratt & Whitney. Your support helps make this event unforgettable. We loved hosting Leave No Veteran Behind for their Impact Panel & Reception at the Memorial! This event was part of their Executive Leadership Program which helps guide Veterans into mid-level management and entry level executive positions by building soft skill training, giving executive sessions, mentorship, and providing access to job opportunities. We are so thankful for the work you do and for letting us share more about the ways you help those who have served our country!

Today we celebrate CMDCM Glenda Atwood, USN (Ret.), our Deputy Director of the National Chief’s Mess who is officially a #NavyMom as her son graduates from boot camp today-- an incredible milestone for any Navy family. Travis is on his way to Groton for "A" School, following in his late father, CSCM(SS) Raymond James Atwood’s footstep by pursuing a career with the Silent Service. We are incredibly proud of him and to all the Sailors who graduated in Great Lakes today! The Atwoods are standing next to the Lone Sailor statue located in Great Lakes -- a tribute to our Navy’s enduring legacy and a symbol of welcoming the next generation of Sailors and their loved ones. #GreatLakesLoneSailor #USNavy #GreatLakes

We kept the doors open a little later today to welcome our brothers and sisters from the Fleet Reserve Association so they could tour the Visitors Center. With the recent celebrations of Veterans Day and the Marine Corps Birthday, the Navy Memorial was honored to welcome these remarkable veterans -- many of whom were in town this week celebrating FRA’s 100th anniversary and attending the 2024 FRA National Convention in Annapolis. Congratulations on 100 years, FRA! You’re always welcome at the Navy Memorial!
