Birks Above and Beyond Award goes to Patricia Thornton, a school nurse at Shamley School, Tempe, AZ, who’s been a lifeline for students and families for over 30 years. ?? This award honors school nurses and teachers who go the extra mile to support kids in need. It was created in memory of Barbara J. Birks, the late mother of our Executive Director, Elaine Birks-Mitchell, and a true champion for children and education. From making home visits to keeping her office stocked with clothes and food, Patricia always finds ways to show up for her students. ?? ?? Through our partnership with Michelle at Wraparound Services, we’re providing thousands of students in Tempe Elementary Schools with this essential yet often overlooked resource. ?? Your ongoing support helps us reach Title 1 school students who might otherwise go without. We’ve already delivered to middle schools, with plenty more headed to elementary schools!
