Hearing this feedback from parents is so rewarding. We know how nervous every child was feeling when they entered the room on Sunday and we are so proud of them for facing their fears. We watched the transformation in real time as kids quickly bonded through expertly-led games and exercises (thank you, Janet!) Excited for Session 2 at Brooklyn Boulders! ??

This weekend, we welcomed 22 new participants, including eight boys and two nonbinary children, to our 2025 cohort! Our gender-neutral programming is designed to help connect 11-13 year olds across Chicago around the one thing that unites them all: the confidence gap. Over the next six months, a team of qualified instructors will equip our tweens with a self-love mindset leading up to their luxury photoshoot! We’re challenging toxic beauty standards and harmful gender stereotypes while making friends and having fun — FOR FREE! Learn more: TweenEsteem.org

Ever find yourself in a room with over 20 tweens who have never met one another before? Janet Kamiri-Ong, MPH, CHES expertly led these young people through ice breaker activities that moved them from averting eye contact with one another (beginning of session) to unprompted exchanging of phone digits (end of session). Sunday was the first convening for this year's cohort at The Tween Esteem Project. Over the course of six months, 22 young people and their families will engage in a series of confidence-building activities focused on arts and physical health. The program culminates in a luxury photoshoot, offering these young individuals a unique opportunity to express themselves with others as they want to be seen. Our Executive Director, Danielle B., made a powerful move by bringing in young people from previous years to share their experiences with the current cohort. I am fortunate to serve The Tween Esteem Project Strategic Advisory Board. Interested in supporting this youth programming? Join me in making a monthly donation here: https://lnkd.in/gs79-xgn.

Success starts with loving and believing in yourself, and that starts in your early teens. Most adult professionals I work with are actually working through self-esteem issues they developed in junior high. The Tween Esteem Project is changing lives in the best way possible. If you know a Chicago tween (any gender, 11-13 years old OR in 5-8 grade) struggling with their self worth, send them this link.
