We’re thrilled to be featured in The Washington Post for our work transforming schoolyards into cooler, greener spaces: https://wapo.st/3TrQs2p #CommunitySchoolyards are more than play spaces—they reduce heat risks, enhance student health, support learning, and provide essential park space for communities. As temperatures rise, our efforts to replace asphalt with trees, shade structures, and nature-rich play areas is more urgent than ever—and our work isn’t complete until every schoolyard offers these vital benefits.

America's public lands—and our time spent exploring them—are essential to our health and happiness. In these spaces, we deepen our connection to each other and to nature and all the benefits that come with spending time outdoors. For the second year, we're joining up with Backroads, the leading active travel company, to celebrate National Public Lands Day. Enter for a chance to win a Backroads trip voucher for two, valued at $10,000 to a U.S-based destination, from Alaska to Zion National Park. ?? https://bit.ly/4g4vFvz

Tiburon Ridge in San Francisco, California rivals any postcard image. Green, grand landscapes and panoramic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, this land was a target for both conservationists and developers. But the conservationists won! With the help of our incredible partners at Marin County Parks and the Wildlife Conservation Board, this landscape is now protected as a public park. These efforts have been decades in the making and we’re thrilled this space will enhance recreational access, connect local trails, expand wildlife habitat, and continue to be a beloved green space for generations to come. https://lnkd.in/e3SacXjz

Vermont is known for its awe-inspiring landscapes, but not all Vermonters have the same access to local greenspace—that’s why we partnered with the Town of Wolcott to create the Wolcott Community Forest! Near beloved pathways, a local elementary school, and sporting fields, this space will allow residents to hike on a network of trails, kids can walk safely to and from school, and precious wildlife habitat will be protected forever. Save the Date ?? September 25! Join us and our community partners, Parque Padrinos, as we reveal how activating a park generated a movement with long-ranging impacts on community power and health equity. Our very own Pooja S. Tandon, MD MPH and Cary Simmons will be a part of the panel discussion. We will dive into the academic research around social capital, cohesion, and civic engagement through park engagement, and explore questions together such as: ?? How can partnerships with the health sector improve community parks and strengthen democracy? ?? What’s the role of philanthropy in supporting park equity and community power? This session is presented in the Rx Foundation's ongoing webinar series, Power is a Social Determinant of Health.
Parks are more than green spaces; they are now vibrant hubs of #Democracy in action! Join us for our next Power is a Social Determinant of Health session featuring Trust for Public Land and one of their community partners, Parque Padrinos, as they detail how activating a park generated a movement, with long-ranging impacts on #CommunityPower and #HealthEquity. Together, we'll explore the academic research around social capital, cohesion, and civic engagement through park engagement; and answer questions like, "how can partnerships with the health sector improve community parks and strengthen democracy?" Full details & Zoom registration link ? We're excited to see you then!

We love schoolyard smiles! We worked with students at Brooklyn Center Elementary to imagine what their new Community Schoolyard could look like—modern, fun, and green. Now, we’re excited to see the first phase come to life with support from our partners at City of Brooklyn Center, Life Time Foundation, L.L.Bean, and Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund! We recently celebrated its playground opening with more climate-smart features on the way, which will connect over 800 students and 3,000 people within a 10-minute walk to the benefits of awesome green space. https://lnkd.in/eezRFCcV
