With members of a trailblazing Black Air Force unit passing away at advanced ages, efforts to remain true to their memory carry on despite sometimes confusing orders from President Donald Trump as he purges federal diversity, equity and inclusion programs. Col. James H. Harvey III, 101, is among the last few airmen and support crew who proved that a Black unit — the 332nd Fighter Group of the Tuskegee Airmen — could fight as well as any other in World War II and the years after. “They said we didn’t have any ability to operate aircraft or operate heavy machinery. We were inferior to the white man. We were nothing,” Harvey said. “So we showed them.”

While small businesses struggled to stay afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic, James Abram and Wendy McManus-Abram decided to open a business. Now, what started as a side hustle selling ties out of the trunk of their car for nearly two decades has turned into a flourishing business. “We kept hearing that [it’s] the pandemic. Nobody's going to be wearing ties and nobody's going to be dressing up,” McManus-Abram said. “They [were] wearing ties with their PJs on,” Abram said laughingly. Jada’s Men’s Accessories, despite its name, has expanded to carrying more than 500 suits. The business also has a women’s apparel line called Wendy’s Collection. Abram, who left his full-time job as a researcher at UNC at Chapel Hill, said he always had faith of a successful business. This month, the couple received their first samples of their suit line they designed called Abram. https://lnkd.in/eK4Ke9Bc

Target Corporation’s stock plummeted by approximately $27.27 per share by the end of February, erasing about $12.4 billion in market value. The drop came on Feb. 28, the designated economic blackout day, and coincided with mounting backlash over the retailer’s decision to abandon its diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments.

"Despite affordability challenges, Black first-time homebuyers are demonstrating a strong commitment to homeownership, a key driver of generational wealth," Zillow Senior Economist Orphe Divounguy said. "While income disparities and saving difficulties continue to delay homebuying for Black households, programs like down payment assistance, first-time buyer tax credits and flexible lending options have helped increase access." The rise of remote work has also expanded opportunities, giving some Black renters more flexibility to pursue homeownership in more affordable areas. Zillow research shows that Black renters are 29% more likely than other renters to be at a tipping point where remote work could make homeownership achievable. Read more: https://buff.ly/4igUYL3
