Just like Transpo, the sport of Pickleball has been dominating the Puget Sound for 50 years! We had a great turn out for our event right down the street from?our office at Eastside Tennis Center in Kirkland, WA!

Transpo Marketing Manager Ivy Renfroe sat down with Senior Transportation Planner Maris Fry, P.E., RSP1 for a great conversation on equity in transit. Observed each February,?Transit Equity Day?honors Rosa Parks' legacy and reinforces the importance of public transportation as a civil right. Equitable transit starts with closing accessibility gaps, improving connections for all riders, and ensuring communities have the reliable transportation they need.

Transpo staff attended the 2025 ITE/IMSA Conference this week to connect with other transportation and public safety professionals to share ideas, explore new technology, and tackle industry challenges together. We were excited to see Darcy Akers from the City of Bellevue present on a project where Transpo is supporting the implementation and evaluation of real-time intervention technologies at signalized intersections—helping enhance safety for all travel modes!

"Along with identifying locations for additional crosswalks along Martin Way, the project is also scoping other improvements that will make Martin Way safer for all users." It was great collaborating with project partners to discuss potential safety improvements for the community!
Martin Way stretches more than 7 miles from Pacific Ave to Meridian Rd/Duterrow Rd. And on average, there's a safe place to cross the street only every 1,584 feet. ? By comparison, an average city block is 200 to 600 feet long. ? Yesterday marked the final walk audit of Martin Way. Walk audits provide an on-the-ground view of walking and biking conditions in a specific area, creating an opportunity to identify safety concerns and discuss potential solutions. ? These walk audits are a part of the Martin Way Crossing Strategy. Along with identifying locations for additional crosswalks along Martin Way, the project is also scoping other improvements that will make Martin Way safer for all users. ? Those proposed improvements might include adding sidewalks where there are none, repairing sidewalks, protecting bike lanes, and adding lighting. ? TRPC thanks Toole Design Group and Transpo Group for leading the walk audits! Their next step will be to select locations along Martin Way that should be prioritized for crosswalks. ? Thanks as well to all who participated in the walk audits: City of Olympia, City of Lacey, Thurston County Government, Intercity Transit, The Olympia Free Clinic, North Thurston Public Schools, and Thurston County Food Bank.

We love seeing our projects in the news. ?? Transpo has been assisting the City of Chelan with developing the ADA Transition Plan where we solicited input from the disabled community regarding prioritization of improvements. The plan was recently approved by the City Council!
