The Training Source Launches It’s 21st?Cohort of its Youth Leadership Program! On September 14th, The Training Source kicked off the 21st year of its amazing Youth Leadership Program, welcoming eleven 10th-grade students?who reside in Prince George’s County to its roster of participants that includes continuing 11th and 12th grade students. What started as a vision of 2004 County Council Member Camille A. Exum has stood the test of time with respect to making a positive impact on the youth we serve. The goal of the 3-year program is to help high school students make smart choices, graduate on time and successfully transition to college or careers. Over the past 20 years, we have achieved nearly 100% positive outcomes annually, consistently far exceeding our goal of 80% of the measurable goals. While only a 2.0 GPA is required for admission to the program, our youth have graduated with no less than a 3.2 combined GPA for as long as we have measured combined GPAs (more than a decade). That’s because they develop the desire to excel and become dynamic leaders. Our graduates are leaders in their schools and communities, valedictorians and salutatorians of their graduating classes, they tour colleges as far away and Florida and Alabama, they earn Presidential Service Awards and are nominated for Posse Scholarships valued at $200K+ as participants in this prestigious 3-year program. We look forward to pouring into the 2024-2025 cohort of scholars and celebrate those who have graduated and made this program successful. ? YLP applications open for rising 10th graders each year at Spring Break. Please visit our?website??for more information and check out previous and coming newsletters to see what’s happening with YLP.

Announcing Our New Partnership with Maryland Governor Wes Moore’s Service Year Option Program! The Training Source is proud to join hundreds of Maryland nonprofit organizations, businesses and government agencies that are serving as host sites for Governor Wes Moore’s Service Year Option Program. Operating under the State Department of Service & Community Innovation, the Service Year Option Program offers Maryland job seekers with at least a high school credential the opportunity to spend nine months with partnering “host site” organizations that support their growth and development. In turn, these opportunities strengthen Maryland’s workforce and expand the state’s employment. ? The program year began on September 11th and The Training Source welcomed Adelia Generlette and Da’Ja Wallace to the team as Service Year Option Members who are serving as Outreach Specialists to help us reach our target populations. As their host site, The Training Source will provide meaningful supervision, workforce training and development opportunities, mentorship, and lots of opportunities to learn new skills than will benefit them both personally and professionally. Da’Ja Wallace (right) graduated from Suitland High School this year and says, “I wish to build strong community relationships and develop creative problem-solving skills while working at The Training Source.” Adelia Generlette (left) has taken college courses at Bowie State University and Prince George’s Community College. She says, “I was drawn to the Service Year Option program because it’s service oriented. I hope to enhance my interpersonal skills while serving others with empathy in my role at The Training Source.” Members are considered paid apprentices with the State of Maryland and host site partners sharing the cost of the program. Members will complete structured training in addition to on-the-job training, leading to earning industry-recognized credentials at the end of the 9-month program.
