Doubling Down on Virginia's Terrible Energy Policies. The Questions Not Asked: What Does This Cost? Will Electricity be More Reliable https://lnkd.in/ex8DpHks

Senator Mamie Locke (D-Hampton) and the Progressives in the General Assembly have again sent a?bill?to Governor Youngkin’s desk requiring doctors in Virginia to complete training in “unconscious bias and cultural competency.”?Last year, when Governor Youngkin vetoed a similar bill, Sen. Locke took to X (formerly Twitter) to smear the Governor: “It is a shame unconscious bias drove this veto.” This shameful response not only exposed Sen. Locke’s own unconscious bias to assume anyone who opposed her bill is themselves biased (or worse, racist), but it also fails to understand that this bill may actually “do more harm” than good.?This bill was worthy of the veto it received last year and is worthy to be vetoed again. Solar power does not provide the amount of energy it promises and absent government threats and subsidies, may not be a viable energy source for states not in the deeper south. This chart of actual Solar Fleet Performance for Dominion Energy is an eye opener. These capacity factors are very low, and falling every year at a rate greater than predicted.
Most people understand the limits of solar power, but the chart below would shock many. It is from a Dominion Energy filing at the State Corporation Commission. Whatever the claimed energy value of a project is (say 50 megawatts or 100 megawatts), that has to be reduced to the actual capacity factor. This chart shows projects in Virginia struggling to even approach 25% CF with few ever making that target for an entire year. We will always need nuclear and natural gas, and the greater the energy demand grows, the more irrelevant to reliability these solar projects become. Lots of $$ for all concerned, of course. Just not enough actual electricity.
