How to Check Your Toilet for Leaks in Four Easy Steps! 1. Remove the Tank Cover 2. Add Food Coloring: Drop a few drops of food coloring into the water in the tank. Make sure to use a color that will be easy to spot. 3. Wait 15 Minutes: Allow the dye or food coloring to sit undisturbed for 15 minutes. Avoid flushing the toilet during this time. 4. Check the Toilet Bowl: After 15 minutes, look in the toilet bowl. If you see any colored water in the bowl, it means there’s a leak, and a repair needs to be made.
