National Dance Institute began it's celebration of 10 years of the NDI DREAM Project...turns out, DREAMs really do come true! The joy of being with all of the children, families, teaching artists, musicians, program magicians - and I need to repeat: the CHILDREN (!!) - is absolutely indescribable. This year's participants were joined by alumni spanning the ten years - including children (now young adults) from our very first DREAM Project! NDI has been a leader in inclusive dance for nearly 40 years...the DREAM Project embodies NDI's core belief that everyone can and should have dance and the arts in their lives. Children, adults, audiences, are transformed into a newer, better place when we witness inclusion at its best. Expanding the possibilities for inclusive dance is our vision for the next 10 years...this is what DREAMs are made of!! We were thrilled to be interviewed about our 10 years of NDI's DREAM Project by Sam Burton for The Teen Magazine. I had a fantastic time interviewing Chelsey Goodan for an article in The Teen Magazine about her book, Underestimated: The Wisdom and Power of Teenage Girls. We had a great conversation on themes of gender justice, feminism, and authenticity. Chelsey spoke passionately about her work and mission to empower young women and create safe spaces for men and women alike. This conversation only reinforced my understanding that we need to continue to talk about issues around gender justice so that we can stop being victims of a broken system that holds back young women and fuels ideas of toxic masculinity in young men.
