Integrity and Excellence in Engineering

关于我们

The Tau Beta Pi Association was founded at Lehigh University in 1885 by Edward Higginson Williams, Jr., to mark in a fitting manner those who have conferred honor upon their Alma Mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character as students in engineering, or by their attainments as alumni in the field of engineering, and to foster a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges. Tau Beta Pi is the only engineering honor society representing the entire engineering profession. It is the nation's second-oldest honor society. There are currently 250 U.S collegiate chapters, 47 active alumni chapters, and a total initiated membership of more than 608,000. Tau Beta Pi's mission is to: Recognize – accomplishments among engineering students and professionals. Celebrate – exemplary people and their important engineering contributions to society. Champion – engineering as a highly valued career.

  • Congratulations to Mung Chiang, Ph.D., CA G ’00, Purdue University president and the Roscoe H. George Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, for receiving the 2025 IEEE Founders Medal! This award was established by the Institute of Radio Engineers (now IEEE) in 1952. It derives its character and purpose from the inspiring example of leadership and service set by the three founders of the Institute. Dr. Chiang will receive a bronze medal, certificate, and cash honorarium. He was selected “for leadership spanning academic, industry, and government propelling advances in communication networks, semiconductor manufacturing, and international cooperation in advanced technologies.” Dr. Chiang received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University, where he was initiated into the California Gamma Chapter at Stanford University in 1999.

  • Congratulations to Dr. Amrika Deonarine, FL Q ’05, assistant professor of environmental engineering at Texas Tech University, for receiving the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering Charles L. Burford Faculty Award. The Texas Tech University - Edward E. Whitacre, Jr. College of Engineering Teaching and Service Awards Committee was impressed with Deonarine’s strong personal commitment to training the next generation of researchers in the environmental sciences. Her mindset’s impact on teaching is clearly reflected in the testimonial letter of this TTU student: “Her guidance has helped me grow in my role, and I have seen the same positive impact on her undergraduate students.” Dr. Deonarine was initiated by the FL Q chapter at Florida International University in 2003, receiving her BS in civil engineering in 2005. She earned a Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering from Duke University.

  • GivingTuesday was a success thanks to you! We raised $7,062.47 from 54 contributors, which (more than doubled) our goal of $3,141.59. You are our hero! Tau Beta Pi thanks you, and we are all so incredibly grateful for your support! We encourage you to share what inspired you to make your gift today, either by direct message or in the comments.

  • Tomorrow is #GivingTuesday! Please support Tau Beta Pi on GivingTuesday and help us reach our $3,141.59 goal! Your generosity is essential to the work we do in equipping the engineers who follow in your footsteps with the professional, leadership, and personal growth opportunities to make a positive impact on our world. GivingTuesday, created in 2012 as a day that encourages people to do good, has evolved into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Every single gift makes a difference — large or small. If you can, join us by making a gift through TBP’s website, available here: https://lnkd.in/e7KRt2-7!

  • Please join us on Tuesday, December 3, when Tau Beta Pi will participate all day in #GivingTuesday, a global movement that inspires millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. Your gift will help support the future generation of engineers, like Megan Lehman, TX B ’23. After being initiated in 2022, Megan quickly rose to leadership at the Texas Beta Chapter at Texas Tech University, serving as president for nearly two years now. By contributing to Tau Beta Pi on GivingTuesday, we can continue to equip young engineers with scholarship, leadership, and personal growth opportunities. Help us reach our goal of $3,141.59! For questions regarding GivingTuesday, please contact Sherry Jennings-King, Director of Development, at sherry.jenningsking@tbp.org and stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the date!

  • Congratulations to Tau Bate researchers Jesse Fite, NY O ’04, and Daniel Weiss, NY O ’85, for receiving the 2024 Engineering Award from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Brookhaven’s National Laboratory! These Engineering Awards are presented to recognize distinguished contributions to Brookhaven Laboratory’s engineering and computing objectives. Jesse Fite has contributed significantly to Brookhaven’s Collider-Accelerator Department over a 17-year tenure. Currently, he is advancing state-of-the-art technologies as he collaborates on prototype power couplers for the Electron-Ion Collider’s electron storage ring. For her pioneering work in wireless communications, Dr. Andrea Goldsmith, CA A ’86, dean of Princeton’s School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been inducted into the Wireless Hall of Fame by the Wireless History Foundation. She received her bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering at the University of California-Berkeley and was initiated into the CA A chapter in 1985. As reported by Princeton University, “Goldsmith has developed key techniques that help wireless networks adjust to changing conditions, improving data speed and reliability. The technology is essential to modern communication systems including Wi-Fi, 4G and 5G networks.” The Wireless History Foundation cited Goldsmith as “a giant in the wireless industry and a driving force for the advancement of wireless communications since the early 1990s.” Read more about her accomplishments from Princeton Engineering’s article: https://lnkd.in/e9sA8biH.
