Did you know that today is International Women’s Day—and it’s also part of Women’s History Month? It’s time to double the celebration and spotlight ??two incredible women whose trailblazing efforts in hepatitis elimination are making the world a better place. In Mexico, Dr. Alethse de la Torre Rosas' focus on equity and excellence in everything she does has driven national hepatitis elimination efforts. As Director General of National Council for AIDS Prevention and Control and as Secretaria de Salud Mexico, Dr. Alethse led and continues to monitor the development and implementation of Mexico’s National Program to eliminate hepatitis C. Dr. Alethse additionally serves as the chair of CGHE’s Technical Advisory Board. Marie Sutton, CEO of Imagine Hope, is a powerful advocate for HCV elimination in the US state of Georgia. Under her leadership, Imagine Hope has seen more than 1,000 people cured of HCV through free HCV tests and navigation to care at state-funded substance use disorder treatment clinics. As Marie’s colleague Dr. Lesley Miller shared, Marie is “constantly looking to expand treatment access by facilitating trainings for new treaters and supporting their work”.?? Want to learn more about Marie Sutton and Dr. Alethse de la Torre Rosas' work? Read our HepEquity blog post explaining Dr. Alethse's ten critical components of HCV elimination in Mexico or become familiar with Marie's organization, Imagine Hope.
