A Philanthropy Massachusetts donor collaborative supporting youth summer enrichment programs in the greater Boston area.
关于我们
Founded in 1971, the Summer Fund is a donor collaborative comprised of over 15 funders, which supports summer camps and programs. The Summer Fund was established by Philanthropy Massachusetts (formerly Associated Grant Makers) to address issues of racial, ethnic, and socio-economic disparities by recognizing the need for summer opportunities for youth in need, and to steward the fair and equitable distribution of resources to ensure access to those opportunities. The Summer Fund serves as a broker between the philanthropic community and nonprofit organizations providing summer programming to underserved youth. The Summer Fund provides direct operational support to selected summer camps and programs. Governed by an Advisory Committee, The Summer Fund is operated/staffed by Philanthropy Massachusetts. Since its inception, the Summer Fund has provided over $35,000,000 in resources to build, sustain and strengthen a quality summer program network. The Summer Fund tailors its grantmaking to include and accommodate the needs identified by nonprofits. The Fund has provided resources for summer programs to support youth experiencing homelessness, as well as youth mental health and well-being, employment, food security, cultural access, social-emotional learning, transportation, and summer learning loss. The Summer Fund is committed to responding to these key intersections through its grantmaking moving forward. Today, our mission and goals remain fundamentally unchanged, as reflected by our funding criteria. Racial, ethnic, and socio-economic disparities are still evident in the quality and availability of summer programming, and we continue to seek collaborative approaches to address the inequities and ensure that summer opportunities are accessible to every child.

As part of our summer tour of Greater Boston youth programs, we visited our friends at Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center to learn more about Chinatown’s rich cultural history, better understand the community’s needs, and have a little fun along the way! This summer, we have participated in over 15 site visits just like this. We encourage any donors that are interested in learning more about the trends in youth enrichment to reach out to us to schedule a conversation!
Earlier this month, BCNC's Youth Center teen staff and kids from BCNC's Red Oak Summer Program welcomed Sean Higgins, Director of the Summer Fund to a site visit. Our teens gave Sean and the Red Oak children a mini walking tour of Chinatown, showcasing local murals and businesses. Since 1980, the Summer Fund has been a vital partner, and this year’s support will enhance Red Oak's summer programs and Youth Center activities. The funding will help design engaging curricula, field trips, and recreational activities, all aimed at fostering the mental health and development of children and youth from Asian immigrant families.

?? Request for Consultant for Market Analysis of the Massachusetts Early Childhood Philanthropy Landscape The Massachusetts Early Childhood Funder Collaborative (#MAECFC) is seeking a consultant to perform a #marketanalysis and #segmentation and develop a plan to engage with philanthropies. The analysis should result in a set of potential new-to-early-childhood funders to engage, along with tools and strategies to engage them, and tools to engage current funders to increase their investments. In doing so, the consultant will take stock of the philanthropic field, current donor understanding, and propose potential tools and strategies to a plan to deepen engagement. The anticipated start date of the engagement is September 3, 2024. Proposals are due May 15, 2024.
