With HIV funding under threat, and anti-science misinformation at an all time high, the research shared at this year's CROI 2025 is more than just academic—it’s a call to action. Whether it’s new long-acting therapies, strategies to expand PrEP access, or insights into health disparities, what happens at CROI directly shapes the future of virology and global health. The documentary the STUDIO produced for CROI's 30th year is a reminder of its critical importance, particularly in its emphasis on the devastating early days of the AIDS epidemic, and the global impact CROI continues to have to this day. Speaking with experts from across the globe, I was struck by their empathy, unwavering commitment, and optimism in the fight against HIV and other infectious diseases. Those are the qualities that have and will continue to enable true progress: "If you recall, in 1996, the concept of highly active antiretroviral therapy became available but it was very costly.
