For years, The Stone Trust has played a pivotal role in preserving and advancing the craft of dry stone walling. Two key figures in this journey, Jared Flynn and Brian Post, have been involved since the early days, working to build a strong community of skilled wallers. In this brief interview, they share insights into the organization’s impact, their vision for an educational walking tour, and the projects they are most proud of. From training the next generation to expanding public awareness, their passion for the craft is evident in every stone they place. 关于我们
The Stone Trust preserves and advances the art and craft of dry stone walling, providing high-quality, experiential training in dry stone construction to homeowners, enthusiasts, and professionals at seven sites across the eastern and central U.S. Beginning with introductory workshops, where you learn the five basic rules of dry stone walling, you can advance through the Curriculum in Dry Stone, developing fundamental and advanced stoneworking skills. Additionally, you can acquire globally recognized professional credentials as a dry stone waller certified by the Dry Stone Walling Association of Great Britain (DSWA), for which the Stone Trust is the certifying entity in the U.S. Established as a 501 (c)(3) educational nonprofit in 2010, certified instructors--predominately walling professionals--have shared their expertise with approximately 3000 people. Over 200 wallers have achieved certification. In addition to training and certification, the Stone Trust gathers a community of walling professionals whose stonework builds beauty and function into the landscape. Landscapers, hardscapers, designers, gardeners, and architects, professional members embody the knowledge of the craft of dry stone walling, passing on what they know. In the exercise of their craft, they help preserve heritage and build contemporary stonework into the landscape. They promote economic well-being in the communities where they live and work. Members help activate the economic, cultural, and ecological potential of dry stone construction across the U.S. Membership creates the possibility of integrating the how-to with the why-to build with dry stone. As we enjoy seeing dry stone work in yards and parks, the Stone Trust works to establish a set of firm guidelines for professionals, in order to promote dry stone in essential features across the built environment.

March Intro Workshop Prepared Wallers for the Spring The Stone Trust PA hosted a 2-Day Introduction to Dry Stone Walling in early March to help wallers get time on the wall before the spring. Wallers came to learn about the five basic principles of dry stone walling as well as to get some practice. Some of the wallers have had some experience before, but understand the benefit of learning from different instructors who have different experiences and knowledge. The barn at the Stone Trust PA facility enables these early March workshops to go off without a hitch, no matter the weather. Dry Stone Walling – Materials and Techniques by Nick Aitken "Dry stone walls – the thousands of miles of stone ribbon stretching across the landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, Yorkshire Dales and Cotswolds – use construction methods which have existed for thousands of years. Indeed, dry stone structures in the Orkney Islands and Ireland are even older than the Egyptian pyramids. A dry stone wall is more than a pile of rocks."
