The Steele Group, in partnership with the RESHORING INITIATIVE, is excited to share insights from a discussion between Steele Divitto, Founder and CEO of The Steele Group, and Harry Moser, Founder of the Reshoring Initiative. They explored key trends in reshoring, geopolitical risks, real estate strategies, incentives, and more. Key Topics Covered: 1. Misconception of the Costs to Conduct Business Overseas: While wages and real estate might be cheaper abroad, reshoring offers advantages such as superior product quality, responsiveness to customer demands, reduced intellectual property and regulatory risks, lower inventory levels (and better turns), skilled workforce, lead times and enhanced innovation and product differentiation. 2. Evolving Stakeholder Responsibility: In 2019, the Business Roundtable redefined stakeholder responsibility to include shareholders, employees, communities, and suppliers. Reshoring aligns with this by bringing back US jobs, supporting domestic suppliers, and strengthening communities. 3. The Need for Automation: For the US to compete, increased automation is essential. US productivity has grown by less than 0.5% annually over the past 15 years, compared to China's 6%. Investing in automation will help the US boost productivity and competitiveness. 4. Clean and Reliable Power: Investment in both grid-level and behind-the-meter energy is crucial. US electricity production emits roughly 50% less CO2 per kilowatt hour compared to China. Manufacturing domestically can significantly reduce carbon emissions and help companies meet ESG goals. 5. Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Estimator: This online tool, available on the Reshoring Initiative's website, helps businesses evaluate overhead, balance sheets, risks, corporate strategies, and other factors to determine the true cost of ownership.
