Alma Adams (D-N.C.) said in a statement on the reversal. “This program has been in place since 1992, and I hope we can work together to address the real challenges and real opportunities for our 1890s and our HBCUs.”

Sharif El-Mekki, the founder and CEO of the Center for Black Educator Development, argued that removing programs related to teacher diversity, culturally relevant curricula, and equity-based initiatives would cut out programs shown to improve student outcomes. "Removing DEI doesn't make education 'neutral'—it reinforces inequalities that have existed for generations," El-Mekki said. Read more in Education Week:
