关于我们
The Second Look Project was founded to provide advocacy and legal support for individuals seeking relief from extreme sentences in the District of Columbia. Our work is focused on those who are eligible for sentence reductions under D.C.’s Incarceration Reduction Amendment Act (“IRAA”) and Compassionate Release laws. We provide direct representation to individuals seeking relief, as well as institutional advocacy, training, and litigation support for court-appointed and pro bono attorneys handling these cases. The Second Look Project was founded through a grant from the Vital Projects Fund, which continues to support our work. Additionally, portions of our operations are funded through grants from the District of Columbia Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants and Arnold Ventures. The Second Look Project is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization.

“It’s never too late” is all Bryant said as he completed his voter registration form. Congratulations Bryant on registering to vote! The Second Look Project commends the District of Columbia for being a leader in voting accessibility. The District has no restrictions on allowing formerly incarcerated DC residents the right vote and even permits residents housed in DC jail and BOP to vote in elections. If you are not registered to vote please go to DC Board of elections to learn more!

As we end July, we want to celebrate some homecomings and recognize our attorneys for their hard work! Our team has tackled several IRAA proceedings, probation hearings, and much more to support and advocate on behalf of their clients. This month, we are celebrating two homecomings due to their advocacy and our clients' hard work. Keith and Terrell return home after being granted IRAA relief! Welcome home, Keith and Terrell! #SLPHomecoming

Happy National Intern Day! This summer, the Second Look Project is thankful to our law clerks for their hard work in supporting our fight against Mass Incarceration. Victoria Paul (she/her) is a third-year student at American University Washington College of Law. An advocate for justice, Victoria seeks to advance the equal protection of the law through an interdisciplinary approach. If she is not spotted with her book club’s current read, Victoria can be found listening to the latest episode of Strict Scrutiny. Siena Roberts (she/her) is a 3L at American University Washington College of Law. She is passionate about public defense and fighting mass incarceration. In her free time, she enjoys mindless fiction, long walks, and hanging out with her rescue pets, Bo and Greta. Caroline Brady (she/her) is a third-year student at the University of Richmond. She is passionate about indigent defense, post-conviction relief, and prison reform. Caroline serves as a Research Assistant for the Institute of Actual Innocence Clinic as well as the Senior Manuscripts Editor for Richmond's Public Interest Law Review. Outside of school, Caroline can be found reading at the nearest coffee shop or walking her dog, Buddy. #NationalInternDay

Monday was our Founder, James Zeigler's, last day here at The Second Look Project. Although we will miss working with James on a daily basis, he will remain involved as a board member. We thank James for having the vison and courage to start an organization in the nation's capital that fights for the freedom, liberty, and dignity of the residents of the District of Columbia. We look forward to continuing to do the work in furtherance of our mission: fighting mass incarceration and demanding that every person is entitled to grace, mercy, and the opportunity for redemption. Good luck on your next steps.
