This is my journey in Presales – what is yours?
25 years ago, I embarked on a path I knew little about—the world of Presales.
?? Uhm, yes, I am that old...
or shall I say experienced?
After graduation, I joined Atos as an SAP consultant. But it wasn’t long before Dimitri van den Broek nudged me toward Presales at SAP a role I barely knew existed.
My first demos? They were awful. I was teaching features and functions, giving hardly any room for the audience to ask questions. Thankfully, with the patient guidance of my first manager, Robert Boers I grew into the role.
I loved meeting different companies. The larger demo events were fantastic. The drive and the energy of the team was incredible.
No one told us how to do demos. We simply showcased features, and we did this with incredible passion. We were fortunate to work for SAP, with excellent software. We got away with poor demo skills because our competitors were equally bad at it.
Fast forward to 2007. SAP expanded into SMBs, and I seized the chance to coach partners. Under Rinse Tamsma ‘s leadership, we transformed their sales and demo skills, enabling partners to flourish as resellers.
Here, I discovered my true calling: helping people to improve their demo skills.
In 2011, The DemoScene was born. Over the last decade, we’ve empowered over 2000 individuals from 100+ companies in EMEA. Alongside the global team of Peter Cohan with Paul H. Pearce, Julie Hansen and Art Fromm, we delivered Great Demo! workshops.
2020 brought new challenges. We adapted to online teaching and expanded our team—Marco Boon, álvaro, Max LüPERTZ and Virgile Delécolle—offering English, Spanish, German, French, and Dutch support.
This year, we expanded to coaching demo automation projects. Remember, automating a poor demo only multiplies mistakes. We're proud of the partnership with Demoboost.
