It was amazing to watch these high school students jump in and get hands-on experience with heavy equipment. Big shoutout to our hardworking crew at The Scruggs Company for their efforts on the 3.826-mile widening and reconstruction of US 441/SR 89/SR 31 in Atkinson County! As the prime contractor, we’re tackling the roadwork while a skilled subcontractor handles the construction of 3 bridges and approaches. During a traffic safety hearing in the U.S. House of Representatives this week, Rep. Mike Collins reflected on his recent visit to Sunbelt Asphalt Surfaces, a division of The Scruggs Company. Last summer, he toured our asphalt plant and a nearby job site, gaining firsthand insight into the dedication and hard work of our crews and the pressing need for effective work zone safety initiatives. We share Rep. Collins' commitment to improving work zone safety. By prioritizing educational programs and enforcement measures, we can protect the individuals who are building and maintaining our roads and ensure that they return home safely at the end of each day.

The Scruggs Company was honored to take part in the first-ever HEO State Championship for Heavy Equipment Operations. This groundbreaking event brought together talented high school students from Toombs County and rural Georgia to showcase their skills on bulldozers and excavators. The championship wasn’t just about speed—it emphasized precision, safety, and technical excellence. These students tackled challenging, real-world scenarios with confidence, proving they’re the future of our industry.
